Yes, I would have like to know that that was the number we were waiting for, instead of wondering when the hell it would be over.

I have to admit to a moment of panic when I glanced at the chyron and only caught "xxxxxx JR. ELECTED 46TH PRESIDENT". I didn't realize that President-Elect Biden was a Junior, and I mused for a moment about how The PDJT could get his own son elected.
 
I have been tracking my blood pressure for the last month. For some reason***, my BP dropped significantly today...

Do they seriously support all this blithering nonsense? If they do, they are just as big of idiots. If not, they need to take action.

That's a good point. As I sat in the dorm lounge watching the returns come in for Ronald Reagan, I couldn't go onto my laptop and pull up the web page for more detail. By contrast, Tuesday night I could find the Oakland County web site and pull up a web site with precinct by precinct data saying whether they had counted their mail in votes, and their in person votes, and I could compare the vote in Farmington Hills with the vote in Novi, and after some number crunching, I could come back here and say that based on my analysis, Michigan wasn't over and could very well go for Biden.

So, the network "calling it" is a throwback to an earlier time, although most people still don't have the time, interest, or in some cases ability to do the kind of number obsession I might do, so the network "calling it" still means, "Someone with access to all the numbers, and who gets paid to use his computer to figure them out, has checked this over and there is no way that Trump is going to pull this one out. Hit it Brunhilde!"

And the media "calling it" means something to people like my mom, who is information illiterate.

BTW, did you know that Colonel Klink's secretary in Hogan's Heroes, Fraeulein Hilde (played by the actor who married Bob Crane in real life), her full name is Hildegard. Klink calls her that in one episode.
