2020 Presidential Election

This is some made up requirement that no one cited before. And like a lot of propaganda points spewed out by the GOP and in this case Trump: people begin repeating it like it was always the case.

Toddler Trump can't wait to find out the election results and he is of course, setting up criteria he can use to get his rigged SCOTUS to install him for another term.

Correction - Trump would happily delay the election indefinitely, so I think that "can't wait" is off in another direction entirely. Rather, he's counting on the red mirage phenomona to be even more pronounced than usual and wants to use that to his advantage.

Kavanaugh's little revenge statement included in his last ruling shows he has the ignorant gall he can't see

You're far more generous on the matter than I when it comes to that partisan hack. But then, I was opposed to him largely because of his record of partisanship and lack of ethics that resulted in him committing crime.

Joe Biden confirms what we all knew:
"I am Kamala's running mate. Y'all think I'm kidding don't you?”
“KAMALA” sign is prominently displayed behind him

Trump is always joking and Biden never is, I suppose.

I mean seriously, what does it matter that Robert Byrd remained a Democrat and Strom Thurmond changed to be a Republican in the late 40s and 50s?

What I find interesting about the Dixie transformation from Democratic to Republican is that the Democrats/Dixiecrats represented the working class and the hillbilly racists and the Republicans have always represented the wealthy and still do. Fast forward to today and the Democrats still represent the working class but the GOP is the party of racism. But for those poor hillbillies the greater draw is the racism. Pretty damn sad.

Agreed. The GOP is interesting in that its members represent the wealthy whites, the wanna-be wealthy whites, and the poor whites. But the only ones the party really represents/cares about are the wealthy whites. As in Trump's tax 'reform'. Low and middle class saw some tax relief, but the rich saw a windfall. So why do the poor whites belong to it? Because it's the party of the Southern Strategy. And if there's one thing that makes people feel better about their own miserable existence, it's knowing their better than someone else. They may be uneducated, poor and looked down on by others, but damn it, at least they're WHITE!

Trump Tweets

Big problems and discrepancies with Mail In Ballots all over the USA. Must have final total on November 3rd.

There's no reason that this has to be true. This will be the core of the GOP post-election legal maneuvering. And what is scary is that Kavanaugh used exactly this "reasoning" in a Supreme Court ruling. Biden needs to win by 10 million votes to keep this from becoming a **** show.

Well, the bad news is that Trump still has a 12% chance of winning, according to FiveThirtyEight and Biden merely has an 88% chance.

The worse news is that when it wobbles back to 13%, a tie at 1% and a Biden win at 86%, it will send pulses racing here at ISF about how "it's happening agaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaain!" :covereyes

That assumes Trump doesn't regularly hold multiple beliefs in his head at any one time. He fluctuates when he's dealing with things like stopping the vote count.

He imagines he can block those uncounted mail-in ballots.
He imagines they are cheaters so he should block those uncounted mail-in ballots.
He imagines he can legitimately block any votes not counted by election night for ... reasons.

And he's still a toddler baby who wants to know he's won before he starts off on his nightly bathroom Tweet-revenge-a-thon.

All of these things can easily be true at the same time in Trump's pointy head.

The message everyone should be pushing right now is to cast their vote personally, to save any chance of a postal vote not being counted.

This is utter garbage, but predictable. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/brett-kavanaugh-trump-2020-election_n_5f977b16c5b6e1e7076381c2

I'm picking it would have been 6-3 if the revolting newcomer had been in attendance.

Yes, it would have.

Here's the part I alluded to upthread:
Kavanaugh writes. “Those States want to avoid the chaos and suspicions of impropriety that can ensue if thousands of absentee ballots flow in after election day and potentially flip the results of an election.

That's just stupid. As noted by Kagan(?) there is no result until the ballots are counted. Now that McConnell has packed the Supreme Court with right wing ideologues, we're headed into at least a generation of backward looking decisions.

Ah, but just think how much fun we'll have watching them desperately backpedal after Biden is declared the winner on the 3rd.....

Why this number?

I wondered when mail-in ballots could start being tallied. It turns out that it varies by state. Some are doing it right now. Others can't begin until 7am or 8pm on Election Day.

I do have to wonder when the first actual totals can start being reported (and not just exit polls).

Bloomberg funding a last-minute $15 million TV blitz in Texas an Ohio to boost Biden.
My partisan side says, "Go, Mike, go" while my more principled side sees this as just more confirmation that we live in a plutocracy. Money buys votes which buys power for the wealthy. With the Supremes we have now, there's no hope of changing this for the foreseeable future.

Sadly you're right. I fear many people think electing Biden is the change we need to make, not the way to start the changes we need to make.

It's a safe bet Harris' staff did not get it while attending a Trump/Pence event.

But they did get Covid. In spite of following "science" they got it. It's a done deal and while I wish them a quick recovery the fact remains that even with the Biden/Harris "protections" in place, they still got Covid. And since the main topic for the campaign they've been running has been compromised. Hence the "lid" on the Biden campaign.
What, you expected taking the normal precautions would provide perfect protection? That's just dumb.

Bear in mind that being a politician means regularly meeting people who you don't know. When in campaign mode, it means constantly meeting people probably 15 hours a day. It's a small miracle when politician or a member of his/her staff does not get infected.

Apparently, for Chris, if you don't get a perfect result, you do nothing. In that case, if I'm not a perfect size 2, I might as well eat myself into a season of My 600 LB Life. If I can't graduate university Magna Cum Laude, I might as well drop out of high school.

Actual results are not released until the polls close in a state. Earliest will be 7 EST. Most of the interesting states will start coming in at 8.

In 2016 it was about 11 when it started becoming clear how things would go. About 12 before news agencies started calling the election.

I've had this discussion with another right winger before who refused to believe it. To support my side, I cited published paper after paper/books by historians declaring that the two parties have basically changed places/platforms while retaining their names. She supported her side with a Youtube video by some crank "pastor" who had zero credentials in history.

The "Dixiecrats" is the common go to excuse. They didn't switch to the Republican party, but they sure as hell split from the mainstream Democratic Party because they were segregationists and then, while you're at it, tell me why five Southern states which had been firmly Democratic went Republican in 1964 followed by the rest of the South.

Truth is, the reason most of them didn't jump ship when Barry Goldwater showed up, is that the GOP wouldn't allow them to keep their seniority in congress. Following 1964 (the 64 was likened by Jackie Robinson to Nazi Germeny), you get obvious racists and segregationists like Jesse Helms, Ronald Reagan, Willaim F. Buckley Jr. grow to national prominence.

(As I've said before, the GOP mostly abandoned any pretense to true racial equality in the early 1900s as they embraced the Lily White movement, and rejected the Black and Tan Republicans. And of course, at this point we have an outright white supremacist president with a xenophobic, white nationalist immigration policy in the Oval Office. I just assume any republican who claims "Party of Lincoln" is lying to themselves so they can look at themselves in the mirror every day.)
