Covid Covid Covid

Wah!

Don't know if it's been mentioned:

"Moments before Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed as Donald Trump’s third appointee to the US Supreme Court, a divided ruling from the nation’s highest court said that mail-in ballots in Wisconsin that arrive after Election Day, even if they’re post-marked in time, are invalid.

The court’s decision on Monday blocked a federal judge’s order that allowed election officials to continue counting mail-in ballots that were postmarked by Election Day on 3 November and received no later than 9 November, following a coronavirus pandemic that has altered voting capacity as delays continue to plague the US Postal Service.

Minutes after the court’s decision, the president had falsely claimed on Twitter that there are “big problems and discrepancies with Mail In Ballots all over the USA.”

He said that the US “must have final total on November 3rd.”

Yeah. A brown commie female being the boss. *shivers in horror!*

Didn't you heartless libruls bring enough torture on these poor republicans with forcing a brown male on them for eight years? (nevermind that he was also born in Kenya, worshipped Allah, wore tan suits, ate dijon mustard, and was married to an ugly man named Michelle)

Have you no shame?!!!1!!!1!??
I was leaning toward: a man that respects a female colleague.

Trump Tweets

Joe Biden is a corrupt politician. He wants to send YOUR jobs to China, while his family rakes in millions from the Chinese Communist Party. If Biden wins, China will OWN the USA. When we win, YOU win, Wisconsin wins, and AMERICA wins! #VOTE

Under my leadership, we achieved the most Secure Border in U.S. History! My opponent’s insane immigration plan completely eliminates U.S. borders by implementing nationwide catch-and-release. Joe Biden would make every community into a Sanctuary City for violent criminals. #VOTE

WISCONSIN—If I don’t sound like a typical Washington politician, it’s because I’m NOT a politician. If I don’t always play by the rules of the Washington Establishment, it’s because I was elected to fight for YOU, harder than anyone ever has before! #MAGA

After all that, I feel like repeating myself.

Just to be clear about this - ChrisB has repeatedly made it rather clear that he isn't interested in reasonable or valid argument. He's interested in supporting Trump, come hell or high water, even if that hell or high water is being directly created and caused by Trump. Personally, I rather doubt that he actually buys a lot of the parts of what he spouts that are utter BS (and frequently enough, are recycled debunked things that he never even bothered to try to defend), but hey, supporting Trump is the goal, which means that rationality isn't particularly important.

Have at him, if you want, but don't mistake him as actually caring about, for example, COVID or racism.

This is a lie that is easily exposed by searching "The Dixiecrats" and counting how many switched to the Republican party VS how many remained a Democrat. Now if you wish to create a topic for debate please do so but as this is off topic for this thread I cannot respond further here as I have no wish to hijack the thread from the 2020 election.

I've had this discussion with another right winger before who refused to believe it. To support my side, I cited published paper after paper/books by historians declaring that the two parties have basically changed places/platforms while retaining their names. She supported her side with a Youtube video by some crank "pastor" who had zero credentials in history.

The "Dixiecrats" is the common go to excuse. They didn't switch to the Republican party, but they sure as hell split from the mainstream Democratic Party because they were segregationists and then, while you're at it, tell me why five Southern states which had been firmly Democratic went Republican in 1964 followed by the rest of the South.

While your at it, if it's such a lie, why did the African American community, which had once belonged almost exclusively to the real 'Party of Lincoln', abandon it for the Democrats?

Joe Biden confirms what we all knew:
"I am Kamala's running mate. Y'all think I'm kidding don't you?”
“KAMALA” sign is prominently displayed behind him

John Kennedy: I am the man who accompanied Jacqueline Kennedy to Paris, and I have enjoyed it.

Trump: "With the fake news, everything is Covid Covid Covid Covid Covid Covid, you turn on the news. Covid Covid.
You know when they're gonna stop talking about it so much? November 4. On November 4, you'll hear we're doing extremely well."

"Because the media is going to shift and say the winner, Biden, has cured everyone."

.... He said that the US “must have final total on November 3rd.”

This is some made up requirement that no one cited before. And like a lot of propaganda points spewed out by the GOP and in this case Trump: people begin repeating it like it was always the case.

Toddler Trump can't wait to find out the election results and he is of course, setting up criteria he can use to get his rigged SCOTUS to install him for another term.

Kavanaugh's little revenge statement included in his last ruling shows he has the ignorant gall he can't see that not counting all the votes is going to turn this democracy on its head well beyond his nonsensical claim the public would want civil war or would riot if they didn't know the election result by midnight of next Tues.

Kavanaugh, likely with too much alcohol on the brain, seems to recall the only reason Scalia made up for the Bush v Gore was purely about getting the election over with so the country could have confidence in the results. That's how they guilted Gore into giving up for the benefit of the country. The reasons for the Bush v Gore decision was not as simple as that.

It really is stupid to have this argument with Chris. He knows all that. But he'd rather hide behind ancient history than discuss where the parties and the candidates are today on racism and discrimination.

Chris thinks this dodge is clever when in fact it is nothing but sleazy disinformation.

Trump on NAFTA: "You like the song 'O Canada,' right? Yeah. Hockey game. Nice song. 'O Canada,' their national anthem. By the way, they stand for their national anthem. Our people have to stand for our national anthem. They have to stand. But Canada treated us badly."

The trumpkin playbook:
1. dig your heels in. Never admit any flaw, mistake, or wrongdoing of Trump or his movement. Even if you have to go 100 years back in time for your whataboutism, even if you have to make the most ridiculously reaching false equivalences, even if you have to contradict yourself a dozen times, never, never, ever yield an inch. Change the subject, accuse your opponents of being hypocrite, deny basic, well-known facts, do anything except yielding ground. Not one step back.
2. there is no rule 2. Keep doing #1.

This from a man who thinks his opponent is senile.

True. I think I know how Dr. Fauci must feel when he's trying to talk to Trump.

Yet even by following "science" they got it. Give it up it's undeniable. You can't blame Trump for the Biden/Harris shortcomings. Everyone knows, it's ok.

First, it's odd you claim Biden and Harris are somehow responsible for the illnesses in Harris's staff, referring to "shortcomings".

But we needn't assume the staffers weren't properly adhering to CDC guidelines. The guidelines decrease but do not eliminate the probability of infection. They also decrease the probability of spreading it to others even more effectively, but in a nation where many people don't follow the guidelines, even the cautious will sometimes become infected.

And this is why we may blame Trump and his administration. They've displayed no leadership in encouraging compliance with the recommendations. Trump can't even mention that masks are good without adding a caveat. It's hard to say how much more compliance we'd see with leadership from the White House, but it's worth a bloody effort.

Of course, we can't expect such an effort from a man who walked maskless while infected into the White House for a ridiculous display of "strength", despite the fact that he was thereby putting his own staff at unnecessary risk.

People have compared attempts at discussions with Trump supporters to playing chess with a pigeon.

I think that's an unfair comparison.

"So uncle Oscar finally got himself killed. He got into his pickup drunk as a skunk and hit a tree going 90 in a 50 zone without wearing his seat belt."

"Oh yeah? Well, here's this other guy who was sober, obeyed all traffic laws, and wore his seat belt, and still got in a deadly crash! Hah hah, gotcha! :does a victory dance:"

See, I don't know about pigeons, but birds can be pretty smart, and even much more simple creatures than humans, like pigeons and house cats, have a sense of logic and internal consistency. For example, even a pigeon or a house cat understands that being careful is desirable, even though you can be careful and still injure yourself.

Trumpkins, meanwhile, will prance around telling you that it's okay not to take covid precautions, because even with precautions you can still catch covid.

Also, they seem to think this helps defend Trump somehow.

This is also why even a pigeon and a house cat would make a better president-vice president pair than Trump.

I agree and I wear mine as a good citizen should with the thought of protecting others.

Since you agree that wearing a mask protects others, then you presumably agree that a President ought to do his damnedest to encourage other to do so. Do you think Trump has done that?

Fact is Covid is here, there is no protection from it even if you wear a mask.

This is nonsense. Masks provide some protection for the wearer. I don't recall the numbers, but some is more than none.

True. I think I know how Dr. Fauci must feel when he's trying to talk to Trump.

I mean seriously, what does it matter that Robert Byrd remained a Democrat and Strom Thurmond changed to be a Republican in the late 40s and 50s?

What I find interesting about the Dixie transformation from Democratic to Republican is that the Democrats/Dixiecrats represented the working class and the hillbilly racists and the Republicans have always represented the wealthy and still do. Fast forward to today and the Democrats still represent the working class but the GOP is the party of racism. But for those poor hillbillies the greater draw is the racism. Pretty damn sad.
