Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 23

This is America. Which means that what many, many people will be aware of is a theory that there is a vaccine and the powers that be are conspiring to make sure only certain people are getting it right away. (Sadly, President Trump may fall into this group).

A country as scientifically illiterate as the US many folks will have a hard time understanding why it will take 20-30 months to get it into citizens. And if something is hard to understand correctly, then it will have one or more fleshed-out conspiracy theories and a dozen mere unsupported accusations.

I don’t think I am way out of line to imagine that eventually a rumor that one or another hospital already has the vaccine might even cause a small riot outside.

Exactly, my two pro trump co-workers were going on about hydroxychloroquine and some 'french studies'. When I asked them 'what studies were those?' they proclaimed 'well we don't carry that information just around with us', while technically they do, their phones, and accused me of simply 'not following the story'. At which point I recounted the problems with the two positive french studies I was aware of. One where the subjects weren't randomized and the other with no control group at all. I was then asked where I got that from, 'NBC'? To which I replied "Read the studies". They then extolled how people take it and feel better or get better and one was even black. After saying 'what difference would that make?', about the person being black, they literally hand waved me away and I again implored them to 'read the studies'.

As you note, it'll just become another deep state or liberal conspiracy, pushed by the usual propaganda mongers, to keep it from the general public till after the election.

I can't even fathom the level of stupid people like this possess. If I woke up one morning and suddenly found that I had become a victim of "teh stoopid" I would jump off a high cliff.

I probably would have asked something like... "You're talking about French studies like the one where the people who were put on ventilators or died were conveniently removed from the final numbers and thus can be safely dismissed as BS?" Fox News pushed that one absurdly hard, after all, and it was the root of just about all the HCQ hype.

Oxford's coronavirus vaccine is reported to have shown promising results after the team discovered the jab could provide "double protection" against the virus

What, not double secret protection?!?! If it's not secret the virus will just clean up its act for a bit.

Thanks, I hadn't heard that part. Perhaps I should have checked out what NBC had to report about the studies. Heck, just that doctor's own reaction to when his methodologies were being called into question being just basically 'methodologies, smethodologies'! I dismissed anything he had to report as simply BS.

Kinda meaningless since you don't list a location.
I only meant it as an example in which trusted information *could* be had. But, if you want to know, I'm in San Luis Obispo county in California, which is half-way between LA and SF.

The official portraits of former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush were removed from the Grand Foyer of the White House within the last week, aides told CNN, and replaced by those of two Republican presidents who served more than a century ago.

White House tradition calls for portraits of the most recent American presidents to be given the most prominent placement, in the entrance of the executive mansion, visible to guests during official events.

The portrait of former President Barack Obama is not expected to be unveiled for a formal ceremony during Trump's first term.

Trump is beyond petty.

It's the worst thing about Trump, his actions aren't driven by some political agenda but simply spite and ego.

It's not too bad. It's not as if a significant portion of his "policies" have been motivated by bitterness over a single incident that happened nine years ago.

I've got a coworker who's a bit of a stereotypical Trump-supporter. Browses all sorts of alternative news sites, wants to send Muslims home, rails against Greta Thunberg, and claims Trump is the best thing since sliced bread.

In his world, the Covid-19 crisis in the US is due to the protests, which also piss him off because "all lives matter", the fact that police education can last only six weeks doesn't matter because "the US has the best schools in the world", his gaffes and terrible statements don't matter because "he loves making a fool of himself on TV", and so on.

It's a disturbing insight into the mind of a stereotypical Trump fan.

.....

How long have you known this person? Has he always been a loon, or did he go off the rails at some particular point? What would he be like if Trump hadn't won, or even run?

Well, that line of reasoning would work on you and would work on me, but you don’t seriously think that would work on anyone still in Trump’s camp, do you?

President Trump has spent every day for the past 4 years convincing his followers that evidence is not needed. And that if anything that looks like evidence is provided (or more likely, simply alluded to) then the only provenance needed is the word of Donald J. Trump. I know it is cliched, but his entire political philosophy is “who are you going to believe, me or your own lying eyes?”

Of all of the Trump-related claims I have heard, this one puzzles, worries, frustrates, and annoys me the most.

Roughly a year, and he's always been a loon.
He's also really loud, attention-seeking, and narcissistic, which is probably another reason why he adores Trump.

Like attracts like...birds of a feather, etc. Those who like authoritarianism are attracted to Trump because he is an authoritarian. People who are racists, bigots, misogynists, etc. see Trump as one of them. Idiots see other idiots as smart.

I am the ultimate member of The Book of the Month Club. First I have lowlife dummy John Bolton, a war mongering fool, violating the law (he released massive amounts of Classified Information) and an NDA in order to build badly needed credibility and make a few dollars, which...

....will all end up going to the government anyway. Next up is Mary Trump, a seldom seen niece who knows little about me, says untruthful things about my wonderful parents (who couldn’t stand her!) and me, and violated her NDA. She also broke the Law by givng out my....

....Tax Returns. She’s a mess! Many books have been written about me, some good, some bad. Both happily and sadly, there will be more to come!
This sounds like a staff member wrote it.

Corrupt Joe Biden wants to defund our police. He may use different words, but when you look at his pact with Crazy Bernie, and other things, that’s what he wants to do. It would destroy America!
Now this is Trump trying to coverup his Fox interview faux pas.
