The Trump Administration can make a grand announcement in October that it has found a vaccine for Covid-19 neglecting to mention that the earliest it can actually be deployed is some time in 2022. The US electorate will be relieved that things will go back to normal in a few weeks and reward President Trump for winning "the war" against Covid-19 by reelecting him. :(

In the euphoria, his utter mismanagement of the US government's response will be forgotten.

Doesn't matter - first impression will be he has solved the problem, and those impressions are very hard to dislodge, especially for more unpleasant things.
 
Easy to solve, if the Dems or mediawill: Just start writing about it soon, and spin it as good, but long-term news.

Sure. Quieter, not silent. Even the Welrod only got down to 70dB plus and that is still in use from WW2 vintage as a "silent" weapon. And the cost for such silencing? A 30 yard effective range. Great for cloak and dagger stuff, useless otherwise.

Exactly ! That's why the timing of any such announcement is crucial. It would have to be early enough to positively affect President Trump's approval rating (for example the morning of the election would be too late) but not so early that reality has a chance to sink in. My gut would say a grand announcement and possibly a televised Presidential message on all networks to the American people to spread the good news one or two weeks before the election.

Another thread please I'd ask.
Little "can" on a subsonic .22... "wow!". Huge can on a Magnum revolver... "oops!". Subsonic .45... depends. A lot of design variance.
Stop generalizing. They're great at what they're designed to do. End of.

Watching them trash Fauci while simultaneously putting up a wispy thin facade of support reminds me ... I can't think of anyone as cowardly and passive-aggressive as Trump. Infantile weakness on steroids.

I'd be delighted if people could see through what he's doing but the 40% who support him doubtless view it as him standing by someone who has let him down badly. :mad:

You’re probably right.
And the creepiest thing about that is not the subject matter, it is that there would be no shortage of people willing to take money to talk about how acceptable it should be for Trump.

That’s the Trump cable network channel I forgot. The one where analysts explain why President Trump should not be held to the same laws and standards as the peons (although I think Trump would spell it pee’on’s).

This is America. Which means that what many, many people will be aware of is a theory that there is a vaccine and the powers that be are conspiring to make sure only certain people are getting it right away. (Sadly, President Trump may fall into this group).

A country as scientifically illiterate as the US many folks will have a hard time understanding why it will take 20-30 months to get it into citizens. And if something is hard to understand correctly, then it will have one or more fleshed-out conspiracy theories and a dozen mere unsupported accusations.

I don’t think I am way out of line to imagine that eventually a rumor that one or another hospital already has the vaccine might even cause a small riot outside.
