...If trump was asked if it was too early to make jokes about coronavirus he'd probably just ignore the question. Or insult the questioner and then ignore it. Thursday at a press conference, after ripping John Bolton as a 'wacko" and "a liar," a reporter called out, "Why do you keep hiring wackos and liars?" trump ignored it.
I think most political analysts have concluded the reason trump does things like calling out Bolton as a "wacko and liar" is really just to evade having to answer Bolton's criticisms in any substantive form. trump doesn't want to answer a question such as, "Did you ask Xi Jinping to buy U.S. soybeans to help you in 2020?" How could trump answer it other than to deny it, only that would put him on the defensive which is where he doesn't want to be. Thus to avoid that whole scenario trump calls Bolton names and ridicules him.
trump's whole history in office is never being honest with the American people. Never candidly discussing matters for which he, trump, has been criticized for. He has no intention of ever leveling with the American people. trump doesn't just use ridicule to puff himself up, it's a way of avoiding ever having to respond in a serious, substantive way to anything that casts him in a bad light.
It' not only despicable that trump does that, it's both un-American and anti-democratic. He only gets away with it because his supporters allow it. In other words, if Sean Hannity ever tried to pin him down it's over.
- Sean Hannity "Mr. president, in his book John Bolton makes the accusation that you repeatedly used the power of the United States Government to try and benefit yourself politically. How do you respond to that sir?"
- trump "Sean, Bolton is an outrageous fake and liar..."
- Hannity "You hired him as your National Security Adviser..."
- trump "Big mistake!'
- Haannity "But why would he say that, that you tried to use..."
- trump "I'm telling you why. To sell his book."
- Hannity "But sir, with all due respect, this is a charge that keeps coming up. That you use the power of the United States government to try and benefit..."
- trump "And it's a lie!"
- Hannity "But last summer you did announce that China had agreed to purchase more soybeans from the U.S. Can I read you what you tweeted?"
But that will never happen. And if it did, trump would bloviate, probably end the interview and never appear with Sean Hannity again. trump undoubtedly knows, if his supporters ever tire of him, ever begin to allow themselves to see him for what he is, his political career would be over in a Miami minute.
