Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 23

It's not Trump or his campaign that are saying this. They're saying that people were scared away by protesters blocking the metal detectors.

People so enthusiastic about President Trump that they'd travel across the country to attend a rally but then be put off by a long screening queue and not even attend the overflow event.

Riiiiiiiiiiight

Wow, those stupid ass rubes have really lowered the bar, cheering, their dear leader for drinking a glass of water.
Whenever I think I've seen it all from Trump and his trumpkins, they do something even more outrageous, bizarre, and/or pathetic, and I'm stunned all over again.

"We choose to drink one handed not because it is easy, but because it is hard."

The #Fakenews made a big deal out of President Trump's alleged difficulties in drinking a glass of water. At the rally he did so with aplomb which goes to show that it really was #Fakenews, that the greatest President in US history is hale, hearty and calling out the #Fakenews and that he has the common touch to take the time to assure the SILENT MAJORITY.

For his supporters (and all patriotic Americans) any one of these would be a cause for celebration. All of them coming together makes it a red letter day.

And, as expected, Trump is already trying to walk back the "I stopped Covid testing" using his often used "I was only joking" defense.

Remember that he is a War President. Any general will tell you that when you send out reconnaissance planes to map the number and location of enemy troops, and you find too many of them, you immediately slow down the reconnaissance. Instantly less enemy troops. It’s just common sense.

Well I don't check my bank balance so that my belief that I'm a billionaire won't be shaken........

Incidentally, I recently received two fundraising begging letters from the GOP.

Am I right in supposing that one of those rally tickets was requested in my name, by person or persons unknown?

America he did it! Yes he DID!

:boggled: Can this get any weirder?

It's worth bearing in mind that the source of the million tickets factoid is the Trump campaign. If they say 1m, then that probably means 100,000.

Or less, considering that they set up for a crowd of 60,000.

Yes, sure, which means this was partly an own-goal, if reports of the expected massive crowds caused actual followers to stay home rather than attend, which is just icing on the cake.

But it still shows how delusional they are, if they really thought 60,000 were going to show up, prepared for 60,000 and then only got 6-7,000 actual attendees.

It's just a complete ****-show, top-to-bottom, no matter how you parse out the claimed numbers, as lies, a prank, or just delusions.

At one point, he was telling the crowd that they couldn't get into the building because of all the "thugs" who were blocking the way. And everyone in that crowd knows, for a fact, that this is stupid ********. It didn't happen. They saw Trump lying to them in real time about something they saw with their own eyes.

And that had an effect - people were leaving the rally long before Trump was finished blathering. Like football fans in the fourth quarter when the home team is losing 42-0, they decided that beating the traffic home was a better use of their time.

He's not gaining any new voters with this nonsense, and every voter he loses is all to the good.

Yeah, from the bits I watched I saw a distinct difference in the crowd from past events. Bored, yawning, indifferent and preoccupied some occasionally mustering up a pseudo shout, chant, clap or sign jostle. I was hard put to find the genuinely enthusiastic and ecstatic attendees that permeated previous events.

Every political campaign needs to have someone on staff with a comprehensive knowledge of comedy, like the Simpsons and SNL, who's sole job is to warn them, "Hey, Mad TV already made fun of "Look how strong I am!" like, 25 years ago!"

Bob Dole's Strong Arm!

Joking about a deadly illness during a pandemic when the country is irreconcilably split on how to handle the illness - now that’s funny. You’re killing ‘em tonight, Mr. President.

I hope he lives long enough to see history refer to him as the stupidest US president ever.

Not to worry one of my trump supporter coworkers, just yesterday morning, literally stated to me "The coronavirus is a joke". So birds of a feather and all that.

The other thing I noticed was the ambivalent reaction when Trump said he told his people to stop the testing. It was as if the whole crowd said “oh, that’s a joke...... maybe it isn’t....... let’s laugh half heartedly a bit....... “.

I know Trump is beyond embarrassment, but this whole thing should at least wake up his echo chamber. A performance like that would shame by 5 year old granddaughter. Not that she would put in something so bad....

Yeah. I've heard some of the "cheer lines" from last night. I've been at football games with 25,000 people, and know what a big crowd sounds like when they're really cheering. This didn't sound anything close to that. It was more like the crowd equivalent of chuckling at the CEO's jokes at the annual Christmas party. "Oh, he made a Scrooge joke, good one, sir!"

No. There is no reason for anyone to go to those lengths. It's not like they were validating the identity of people requesting tickets, they were just handing them out to anyone requesting one or more tickets. You could go in as Jane Doe of Baku, Azerbaijan (I hear it's lovely this time of year) and request 100 tickets and get them.

There is no reason for any identity theft of any sort.

I have a dream: Trump getting his very own Ceausescu moment.

Not likely in his rallies, but boy would that be satisfying.

Correct on both counts. However, as a creature that feeds off the adulation of his fans and crowds in particular. The low energy and attendance of that event must have put a drain on his EER (Egocentric Energy Reserves). Smiting someone or something seems likely in order to boost his apparent external validation as a big man.
