2019-nCoV / Corona virus Pt 2

Everyone in this case refers to all the people (here and elsewhere) citing Fauci as the last word on facts. Hyperbole feels appropriate at the moment.

The difference here is that Fauci is generally recognized as an expert on infectious diseases and you're just some person, with a clear political axe to grind, on an internet forum.

Hopefully you can see why the hyperbole you spew is questionable, despite your relative expertise.

That article is from the mid 60s.

It cites a single case of an outbreak in a choir practice.

They then measured droplets expelled by uninfected persons when singing coughing and talking. That is not a measure of TB bacillus expelled, it's only a measure of droplets.

You can have pulmonary TB and spit and not expel any bacillus.

How is that possibly evidence singing is an "especially high risk activity"?

Besides, there are rare cases of extrapulmonary TB in the upper airway which are extremely contagious. That could explain the outbreak in the choir practice.

As could other variables: what was the size of the choir room vs the rest of the school? Did singing cause coughing spells? And in the 60s despite that article calling those folks, "converters", it's doubtful they had valid pre and post exposure testing.

Primary Tuberculosis of Upper Airway: Case Report of 3 Rare Presentation

I do know a lot about infectious disease, especially diseases like tuberculosis which is an occupational hazard in health care.

Here in Austin we are on lockdown now, nothing open except for grocery stores, restaurants are allowed to do delivery and takeout. 62 confirmed cases so it is definitely here.

I have supported my positions that contradict Fauci.

I'm seeing the damage first hand that bad advice has done here in WA State.

I don't have an axe to grind except against the damaging advice and information CDC and Fauci are spouting.

But of course, feel free to follow those authoritative government voices all you want.

Our city and 5 all counties of the metro area issuing stay home order starting this Tuesday and lasting a month at which time they will consider options.

Will be interesting to see what happens.

Both of my wage jobs say they are "essential businesses" and will remain open. My brother works at a garage. The owner says since they are a parts supplier, they can stay open. Half a dozen other similar interpretations in similar vein from friends.

Bars and restaurants were closed because the liquor board and health department can do that. Not sure there's any statutory teeth in this order. Personal movement has so many exceptions one could convincingly memorize, as well.

ynot, you should have taken that bet - only 14 new cases today - not even 20% increase, although being Saturday, they probably only did half as many tests as usual.

Here you go - I'll bet you our infection numbers increase by 50% today.

In your opinion. But your clear political axe to grind casts doubt on your opinions. To deny that would be foolish.

I'm seeing the damage first hand that bad advice has done here in WA State.

Please provide me with proof that this is the fault of Fauci or POTUS, while explaining to me why the governor of WA bears no responsibility.

Have you read your sig file? The one that you just edited to add "and people died"?

On this you're delusional. It is impossible to separate your political views from your "scientific" views. The two are intertwined and science takes a back seat. No reasonable person can read what you say and have confidence that your opinion is based on science and not emotion.
But of course, feel free to follow those authoritative government voices all you want.

Likewise, please feel free to juxtapose your personal beliefs with 'science' all while pretending you're being totally impartial.

I have a background in science too you know. I know the difference between impartial scientific theory/opinion and emotionally based rhetoric.

This is a preprint of a paper by researchers at Duke National University of Singapore, currently under peer review.

IIUC the authors are saying that recent samples of the virus taken in Singapore show protein deletions that are likely to make it less dangerous. The deletions are similar to those seen in the SARS and MERS viruses towards the end of the outbreaks, that were associated with 'reduced replicative fitness'. It is not just referring to the presence of the L and S strains which were already known about for some time.

Okay. Are you saying we could all be innoculated with this strain?

As I understand it, and it's entirely possible that my understanding is flawed, reduced replicative fitness doesn't equate to lethality.

Meaning, it may become less infectious while becoming more lethal.

NEW DATA: A French study has demonstrated evidence that the combination of Hydroxychloroquine & Azithromycin are highly effective in treating Covid-19.
The patients enrolled in the study showed complete viral eradication around the 5th day of treatment.

Everyone who thinks coronavirus is harmless or doesn’t matter should rethink that opinion immediately.
This is an extremely dangerous pathogen with wide spreading implications, including neurological impairment, brain, lung, heart & reproductive damage.

There seems to be a big push for this particular Covid Cocktail. I hope they're right. I'll cross my fingers but I won't hold my breath. :)

I don't know. Germany is continually reporting more deaths than serious/critical cases. Does that mean that the majority of deaths in Germany are people who had only mild symptoms?
On the Worldometer site, the number of cases, mild and severe, indicated the number of active cases of coronavirus.
Deaths are no longer in that active set of cases. Quite literally.

So number of deaths is a separate set of data from the currently active cases in that site’s data.
