The Trump Presidency: Part 17

No, no, no. The beauty of that effort is that it does NOT require congress to act at all.
OK I've heard about that; haven't paid a lot of attention though. My sense is that it's highly unrealistic. And when I read this link that was posted upthread -- to the bottom of the page -- my pessimism is unshaken.

I need to use purple font more. Seriously. You didn't see that was thick, thick sarcasm?

Its 2019.

Hell, The Onion had to go as far as Trump murdering people with his bare hands.

Also, I spend a lot of time on another board that has hard-core Trumpists

Our President has gone past being "not even wrong" at this point.

It didn't stay that name, but certainly seems to solidify their presence in the force.

My favorite part by far, though...

There were goddamned Kurdish airborne units and this ******* President denies it to justify stabbing their progeny in the back.

I'm through the roof.

Sure they may have served on the Allies' side, but did they actually take part in the Normandy landings ? ;)

Worse is that "the Kurds have been fighting each other for 200 years". The reason that there are still Kurds around is that they haven't fought each other, but instead have fought together everybody else that's come along to a standstill, for thousands of years. Persians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Turks, the British Empire (which resorted to dropping chemical weapons on them), and still there they are, featuring on the world stage and a force to be reckoned with. The same people Xenophon described two and a half thousand years ago.

Also of note...

The Kurds did help the Allies in WWII. Much, much more than the Trumps did, for that matter. Looks like I was beat to the punch on this, though. Good!

I suspect Erdogan's going to regret his campaign, and not just because of anything the US does. Kurds are the definitive enemy that plans do not survive first contact with.

Hopefully! Still, they're probably not going to have an easy time of it... especially when The Trump administration provided Turkey with intel to plan attack on Kurdish allies.

Putin probably isn't on okay terms with Turkey, though, right? Because of NATO, and because Turkey wants control of Syria, which is currently Russia's client state?

I think Trump might be uniquely cozy with both Turkey and Syria. For all we know (god, this is cynical/paranoid) Trump told Erdoğan to blow some **** up in the Kurds' turf just to be able to take credit for getting them to stop.

...

Look who met 3 weeks ago to discuss and make plans for Syria – Putin, Erdogan, and Rouhani

I'd suggest not assuming that Putin is particularly unfriendly with Turkey. Incidentally, it might also be worth thinking back to... Flynn's involvement with Turkey. Erdogan is very much in the middle of this mess.

In other news...

8-year-old climbed over replica of Trump's 'impenetrable' wall; an adult did it in 40 seconds

Need more be said?

Deutsche Bank Seems to Have Misplaced drumpf's Tax Returns. Right.

Misplaced as in Trump may well have managed to get them eliminated. I have to wonder if such was done after subpeonas.

The joint statement released with President Bolsonaro in March makes absolutely clear that I support Brazil beginning the process for full OECD membership. The United States stands by that statement and stands by @jairbolsonaro. This article is FAKE NEWS!

We defeated 100% of the ISIS Caliphate and no longer have any troops in the area under attack by Turkey, in Syria. We did our job perfectly! Now Turkey is attacking the Kurds, who have been fighting each other for 200 years....

....We have one of three choices: Send in thousands of troops and win Militarily, hit Turkey very hard Financially and with Sanctions, or mediate a deal between Turkey and the Kurds!

After what he pulled, I doubt the Kurds will want to deal with the US for a while.

From the day I announced I was running for President, I have NEVER had a good @FoxNews Poll. Whoever their Pollster is, they suck. But @FoxNews is also much different than it used to be in the good old days. With people like Andrew Napolitano, who wanted to be a Supreme....

...Court Justice & I turned him down (he’s been terrible ever since), Shep Smith, @donnabrazile (who gave Crooked Hillary the debate questions & got fired from @CNN), & others, @FoxNews
doesn’t deliver for US anymore. It is so different than it used to be. Oh well, I’m President!

Lincoln had the Gettysburg Address. For Trump...I guess I nominate this?

While we may be a bit distracted by the Trump's betrayal, there's another somewhat noteworthy event of the Trump Presidency, albeit one that Trump hopefully has less to do with.

PG&E power outage could cost the California economy more than $2 billion

Really short version of what's going on? Profit-oriented monopoly has faced numerous serious lawsuits because of the results of mismanagement and corruption. Now, in an attempt to reduce their liability, they're refusing to give service to hundreds of thousands of people while they try to do some of the work that they should have been doing all along.

This is an interesting situation, with hopefully a lesson to be learned for the future.

PG&E is between a rock and a hard place. They've been ruled liable for fires started by their negligent maintenance which they're working overtime to fix. But overtime isn't instant, so what should they do about at-risk areas? Provide service and possibly burn down more homes, or cut service until they can get around to them?

On the other hand, the only reason they're in that position is because they tried a "too big to fail" legal strategy, doing nothing and then arguing that they were so lazy that the consequences of their laziness couldn't possibly be fixed in a practical fashion so they shouldn't be held to account for it. So **** 'em.

I will be in Louisiana tonight (Love it!) to get Republicans to vote for either of our two great Republican Candidates and force a run off with John Bel Edwards, who has done a really poor job of tax cutting, car insurance cost (worst in USA), & is suspect on your 2nd Amendment!

For context, the Secretary of State sent a letter to the OECD officially supporting Romania and Argentina, with no mention of Brazil. The official response has been that Brazil just needs to wait their turn, but that doesn't explain the omission from the letter. Are we only allowed to endorse two countries at a time?
