Ed George Soros and others targetted by Terrorist

The authorities are presenting a lot of dissembling and shifting around to avoid saying this nut-job's packages were bombs. Any real skeptic would be questioning why they are doing that.

They were not functional because they did not have detonators, which is why Wray said that they might have gone off is they were jostled, which is silly.

It really does not make a big deal, but it is aggravating that they just don’t come out and say it.

Refering to bombing Limbaugh Says 'Republicans just don't do this kind of thing'

I think the forty odd clinics bombed by right wing extremists since the 70s would disagree.

From my Facebook feed:

Kevin:
But Bernie wasn’t to blame when his supporter showed up to a ball field and shot people?
Got it.

********** hypocrites.

Paul:
Seeing as how Bernie's campaign used messaging like "Love Trumps hate" and Trump incited violence at his own rallies and uses inflammatory violent language, I would have to say that comparing the two makes you a ********** idiot.

On my feed some clown posted that since this guy did stuff it all evens out

Talk about not understanding the problem....

I'd say it falls on anyone who has a loved one in the Trumpist cult to stage an intervention. Make them confront who they've become. Make them understand that they are not only hurting other people, but people they care about and even themselves. If they won't change, cut them out of your lives.

He was caught because of a fingerprint on a package and some DNA on a package and because his spelling errors were the same as in his online postings.

Associated Press via OregonLive said:
A Florida man with a criminal history and a fervor for President Donald Trump sent at least 13 mail bombs to prominent Democrats, Justice Department officials said, crediting DNA, a fingerprint match and misspellings for the key break in a case that spread fear of election-season violence with little precedent in the U.S...

Sayoc's social media profiles portray a deeply disaffected conservative who trafficked in online conspiracy theories, parody accounts and name-calling. He called a Florida school shooting survivor a "fake phony," peddled theories about George Soros, the billionaire political donor targeted this week by a package bomb, and denigrated other Democrats who were later the intended recipients of explosive packages.

An amateur body builder and former stripper who once spent time on probation for a bomb threat charge, Sayoc first registered as a Republican voter just ahead of the March 2016 Republican primary and quickly identified himself as a proud Trump supporter, tweeting and posting on Facebook videos that appear to show him at Trump rallies. He appeared to be living in his van, showering on the beach or at a local fitness center...

The big break came when a fingerprint found on one of the packages, intended for California Rep. Maxine Waters, matched a fingerprint of Sayoc's on file with Florida authorities. A DNA sample from a device intended for Obama similarly matched the suspect's DNA, the FBI said. An additional clue: Misspellings from his online posts matched mistakes found on the packages, according to an 11-page criminal complaint that included the formal charges of threatening former presidents and transporting explosives across state lines.

Some packages included photographs of the intended recipients marked with a red "x," the FBI said. The packages contained timers and batteries, but were not rigged to explode upon opening. Officials were uncertain whether the devices were poorly designed or never intended to cause physical harm...

Sayoc appears to have been living on the margins, regularly running into trouble with the law and struggling to make ends meet. He was repeatedly arrested for theft in the 1990s, faced felony charges of possession of anabolic steroids in 2004 and was convicted of grand theft in 2014. In 2002, he served a year of probation for a felony charge of threatening to throw or place a bomb. His lawyer in that case said the charge stemmed from a heated conversation with a Florida utility representative. Ronald Lowy, a Miami attorney, said Sayoc showed no ability at the time to back up his threat with any bomb-making expertise.

Sayoc had $4,175 in personal property and more than $21,000 in debts when filed for bankruptcy in 2012. "Debtor lives with mother, owns no furniture," his lawyer indicated in a property list. He had been an amateur body builder. More recently he was seen at an LA Fitness in Aventura, regularly showering at the gym but not working out, said Edgar Lopez, 48, a therapist who works out at the gym.

Marc Weiss saw Sayoc nearly every morning at 6 a.m. for the last four or five months. "I've seen the guy maybe 80 times and I never said a word to him because I had a feeling he was a little off," said Weiss, a 56-year-old building superintendent who has lived in the neighborhood for eight years. "This guy had an air about him that was unsettling."...

Documents released Friday by the Broward County Sheriff's Office show Sayoc reported in May 2015 that more than $40,000 in goods were stolen from his van and an attached trailer, including 11 pieces of Donald Trump-brand clothing valued at $7,150. Specifics are not included, but Trump has a line of suits, shirts, ties and accessories. The report shows detectives were never able to confirm whether the theft actually happened, and no arrests were made....

That's how you spell it in English. It may be different in the colonies.

It is.

In the USA this suffix is spelled "ize", everywhere else in the English speaking world, its spelled "ise"

USA = Capitalize

Everywhere else in the world = Capitalise

I wonder how a self-claimed expert in the law (a subject where correct spelling, grammar and punctuation is vital) can fail to understand something so basic.

No, that is not silly. It is aggravating as all hell to see people on Twitter and Facebook who go on an on about firearms, even those who damn well do know better, say things such as the highlighted.

Things like the explosives in fireworks, black powder, and smokeless powder must be stored in containers made specifically for them to be fairly safe, and storing them in a PVC tube can easily result in an explosion. The risk is highest with the firework explosive, then black powder, then the smokeless (smokeless has a higher ignition temp). The risk is greatest with the dust coming off the grains like is produced from agitation.

PVC pipes tend to create static very readily. Those explosives are easily set off from such a spark. Depending on the amount, the perp is either lucky or had grounded the pipes so they didn't explode on pouring, seeing as I doubt he kept his work area clean (one of the best ways to cut down on the risk).

As I said before, if one pours such explosives into a PVC pipe, one has created a bomb whether or not one intended to.

Count me out. As a Dane I wouldn't really have a stake in that debate. I was taught (a kind of) British English in school, but I'm fine with all the corrections from British to American spelling that happen automatically in this forum. However, the spell checker probably can't tell the difference between ones and one's.

I've merged my British English spellchecker with a US English one so that I don't get constant spelling corrections highlighted.

So add negligence to his list of wrong doing. But it doesn't mean he intended to commit murder.

It seems you have yet to grasp the fact that it does not really matter at all whether these "devices" were capable of actually going off and harming anyone. What MATTERS is that they contained real explosives, and looked enough like bombs to....

1. make people think they were bombs.
2. force LE and authorities to treat them as though they were bombs
3. disrupt the lives of everyone who was a target, who worked for them or who were friends and family.

Assuming that you ever get out of your mummy's basement, imagine you were flying somewhere, and reached under your seat to stow something, and found a cardboard box. What would you do next, and what would be the consequences?

I would hope that you would have enough sense to call a flight steward and point it out to them. If the flight steward was unable to confirm that it belonged to anyone, an in-flight emergency would be called and your aircraft will be turned around or landed at the nearest available airport.

Now, whether this box turned out to be a bomb, a fake bomb or just an empty box that got missed on the preflight sweep, the result would be the same.

Total disruption for you and everyone else aboard
A lot of very frightened people
A bomb disposal callout
An FBI callout/investigation
Disruption for the airline
etc etc

Putting it in capital letters doesn't make it so.

I'm having trouble figuring out what excuse you're hinting at, here. Are you going back to the "fake bombs" theory?

And now we have the synagogue shooting in Pittsburg. Welcome to the abyss, USA.

Hoping for the death penalty. Trump has already called for it, although this evil killer spending the rest of his life in a Supermax like John Gotti does have its appeal.

I'm saying that with no one in the FBI, Homeland Security, police, etc. calling the packages bombs, there is a reason for it, and the most likely one is they aren't bombs. Seems logical to me.

You realize he was charged with mailing explosives, right?
