The Congresscretins at the Federal level don't have to apply any laws at all when it comes to impeachment.

They decide what actions and behavior are impeachable offenses.

Yes, I recognize that.

The problem is, state laws are outside the regular system of checks and balances available when dealing with federal laws. Congress could impeach Trump over some broken state laws, but they'd be under less obligation to because, congresscritters are primarily concerned with federal issues.

They don't need any broken laws at all, state or federal. They can impeach him for pretty much any damn reason they want to.

Their only concern is how it will affect their re-election chances.

I don't think I agree with this. I think the vast majority of Congressional concerns are related to the effect of their actions on states and smaller regions. "All politics are local." as they say.

Yes, the laws they pass are 'federal' laws, but their scope and intent is often, perhaps even usually far more narrowly focused.

When you are talking millions, all the federal tax charges mean there are state tax violations as well in NY. NY has a state income tax.

And the Trump family as well as the Kushner family very likely have potential state and federal income tax violations as well as Cohen and Manafort.

Trump has gotten out of state law violations by bribing the state AGs but I suspect even with his appointment of the NY AGs it's not going to always get him out of these legal troubles.

Trump made a big mistake upsetting the apple cart when he ran for POTUS.

Considering what their Convention was like, it's hard to say who is a Libertarian and who are just Trumpers who believe they are. It goes with the TEA Party rebelling against the GOP. They claim all government is bad, all taxes are bad, except when the GOP blows up the federal budget.

It does not surprise me to see that crap in the comments. The question is, what are the articles they are publishing saying?

That's what I've thought, too. I bet his family and cohorts in crime regret he ever decided to run.

A big mistake? As they used to say on ESPN (in a slightly different context), "It's what he does!" Trump has a history of making big mistakes. Google Atlantic City (for starters).
 
To be fair, he expected to lose. By the election he was already gearing up for a Trump TV channel. If he'd lost, he could have spent the next decade whining about the "rigged" election on Twitter to appease the Russians, and no one would have been looking this closely at the collusion or the deals made in its service.

It's actually pretty easy to spot Repubicans disguising themselves as Libertarians. The main litmus test is to ask them what they feel about Open Borders.

With that edit, you just described Dump's 2016 campaign. He promised what they wanted (wall, coal jobs, etc) and spoke in generalities so all his fans could hear what they wanted to hear......and now he's president.
