Cont: Proof of Immortality VIII

For certain values of the word "progress", yes!

Or, more truthfully, no. We are no further forward than we were on the first fringe reset back in 18-hundred-and-frozen-to-death.

Now, this thread is starting to make sense ... its posts during the last five days are proof of it.

Religious Trolls Seem Insecure in Their Faith

It is difficult to imagine that any religious believer who is secure in his or her faith would be even mildly bothered by an encounter with someone who did not share his or her beliefs. And yet, many religious believers seem to be more than a little bothered by those of us who do not believe in their gods. Some even go out of their way to troll us, seeking us out and stirring up trouble. It is almost as if our very existence is viewed as problematic in some way. It seems to me that this is the sort of thing one does when one is unsure of one's faith and trying to reassure oneself.

Jabba has decided to answer Jay's points by not PMing Sackett
Filippo,
- On May 29, I asked Sackett how he wanted me to proceed -- did he want me to go back to the beginning of the fatal flaws, or should I take up where I left off. Also on the 29th, he told me not to proceed until I heard from him.
- On the 31st, I told him that I assumed he had changed his mind about discussing this with me. On the same day, he told me that I shouldn't be making assumptions, but that I still shouldn't proceed. I said OK, and I haven't heard from him since...

Or so you say.

Sackett has a plan and knows what he's doing. You should continue to follow his instructions and not post here until he advises further. There is a method to his madness.

You are a highly-attuned holistic thinker, blessed with insight the rest of us can only aspire to. You will be able to understand far better than anyone else here what Sackett's method is, if you just ignore all the haters and follow your instincts.

- If Sackett hadn't asked, I was going to quit bothering you guys. I have assumed that he has just been jerking my chain, but just in case he wasn't I kept paying attention...
- Anyway, unless he says something today to convince me otherwise, I'll never bother you guys again.

In the words of a holistic thinker, "Whatever".

People have memories. Don't come back in a few weeks or months with a fringe reset and think that we'll have forgotten where we left off.

Are you sure you weren't just feeling lonely?

Let's be very clear about what's going on. What's "bothering" us is not that you believe in an immortal soul. Nor is it that you claim to be able to prove its existence mathematically. The former is prevalent, if somewhat irrational. Nevertheless, it is fully appropriate as a discussion topic in the Religion and Philosophy section. Some of the greatest thinkers of our age pondered the existence of a soul and its possible nature. And the latter is a perfectly testable assertion, which is also right here at home in a skeptics' forum. We're perfectly happy to apply a collectively expert knowledge of mathematics to the proof you've offered. None of this is inherently bothersome.

What bothers us is your abandonment of these questions in favor of an exercise with fairly apparent ulterior motives. You seem very much to want want to frame this as if you're being run off by your opponents, possibly as an alternative to debating. You want it to look like a choice between
1. Debate it Jabba's way,
2. Leave.
But there is also
3. Debate it a different way,
which you have utterly rejected. As you demonstrated at Talk Stats, you have very little interest in any debate that isn't an instance of your "effective debate" strategy. And we proved in a separate thread that that strategy is neither effective nor a debate. It is simply a self-indulgent exercise where you try to dramatize the semblance of debate to ensure it never ends badly for you. Or never ends at all. The people you've tried to sucker into this useless farce are not fooled for very long. And you've proven you have no interest in them after they realize what's going on.

The "never bother you guys" option was not suggested or demanded by your critics. You added that one just to have an alternative to debating fairly and honestly. Since I doubt you really believe your proof has any actual objective mathematical value, I think the best interpretation of this is you're simply looking to feel knowledgeable and important. And since you're doing that at the expense of other people, you are probably better off leaving rather than continuing to abuse the other members here. But it's your choice to leave rather than to be honest. It's not something you're being railroaded into. We would rather you stay and debate honestly. But honesty doesn't seem to be part of the plan.

Just a minor correction - as he demonstrated, he also can't stick with (or even clearly define) his own "effective debate" strategy.

Anyway, plus ça change...

If this follows the typical yrreG pattern:

1. yrreG has it handed to him
2. yrreG realizes it long after everyone else does
3. yrreG turns tail and flees the thread
4. yrreG licks his wounds and goes into hibernation mode
5. yrreG starts a new thread and never mentions this one again
6. yrreG eventually convinces himself that he won against the evil atheists
