The Unofficial Election 2016 Results Thread PLEASE

I'm starting the call for this now.

Michelle Obama 2020!!!

No more dynasties. We're already looking at the threat of the Trump kids thinking they could follow in their father's footsteps.

No way would the Republicans ever agree to a constitutional amendment to get rid of the electoral college. This is two elections in 16 years where the Republican won despite losing the popular vote.

It depends on just how unpopular Trump ends up. If he ends up popular, then of course the electoral college will be seen as a good thing. If he ends up a laughing stock, and the people who voted for him end up regretting their choice in large numbers, they might demand it.

It's too hard to predict what will happen at this point with a Trump presidency. I believe we are entering into Interesting Times.

Looking at the numbers, it appears that Hillary's loss was more because she didn't motivate enough people to come out for her than Donald motivated a bunch of extra deplorables.

This is actually good news. It means that the appealing to deplorables strategy in presidential elections is defeatable. Democrats just have to run someone that is likeable and doesn't have a bunch baggage. Kinda like Barack Obama (he would have likely beat Donald pretty badly if he could have run again). Though I have no idea who that would be in 2020.

Dubya ended up extremely unpopular. No big demand that the electoral college be changed.

Labeling those you disagree with "racist", "sexist" and the like makes it very difficult to come back to the table when you lose.

Funny how Trump supporters got all politically correct when they were on the receiving end of stereotyped insults. When I thought this was going to come down to racism and sexism, I really thought America would do the right thing. Turns out, the real deciding factors were fear, ignorance and stupidity, exactly like Brexit. This is our future until the left figures out how to break through the alternate reality created by the vast right-wing propaganda industry.

Republicans dominate the House and Senate, have the Presidency, and will likely appoint the next one or two Supreme Courts Justices.

There are no longer any checks and balances.

The phrase checks and balances never implied split party control.

But the rules will be changed by 2020. More and more minorities will not be voting because they will be, for all practical purposes, not allowed to.

Nobody likes to be the target of stereotyped insults. And you know what I call the propaganda my side dishes out? "A bias toward the truth." Nice, huh?

This does seem to be a cancer that is spreading over the western world. Too many colored folks and gays were given equal rights, the world is experiencing a whitelash because of it.

I am not totally shocked that this has happened. I am little unnerved.

I think the Democrats need to look at this as a wakeup call to make an attempt to appeal to rural and blue collar America. Or at the very least, not simply treat them all as backward rednecks/deplorables. It's not that there's not some truth in that, but I dont think it is that group's most defining trait, particularly when weighed against their contributions to the economy at large. It would appear to be a losing strategy to demonize the bulk of the country's workforce and wealth.

How would they appeal to racists without alienating their own base, I wonder?

Their tactics don't make it impossible for (most) minorities to vote, just harder. I think they could be overcome with a good candidate.

Also, a bunch of deplorables will be dead by then.

You dont have to appeal to racists.
You have to appeal rural white americans.
If you start off defining them as villains first and foremost you've already lost the battle. People, even if they are racists, dont like being called racists.

ETA: Racism is a problem in this country. But is it the foremost crisis we face? It is often treated as such. I would say its prominence in this election cycle cost the democrats the election.
