In previous Windows versions I had the habit of waiting for a couple of months before installing the updates. And this has indeed saved me from much trouble that early adopters had to face. Not to mention that some updates were simply not working with various setups and I had to completely deactivate them (I remember some video drivers that wouldn't work with my laptop). I'd like to continue this practice but now I can't. Besides that, it appears that some "updates" have changed user settings or even uninstalled user-installed programs. I don't really feel confident that MS won't screw up some update and me along the way.

This is what I did too. For now, you can go into the task manager, and disable the Windows update service. I have a tablet I don't care about that I use as a canary. If it takes the updates without a problem, I'll reactivate the Windows update on the other computers long enough for the updates to run.

I have not used 10 personally but had to install Office 2007 on someone else’s new Win 10 laptop and ran in to a truly bizarre issue. During the install the window for entering the key code was a size and resolution that made it so you could not see the fields for entering the code, or any of the buttons at the bottom. There was no way to scroll or maximize the window. After considerable searching online I found some other people who had experienced the same thing and had a workaround. I had to change the resolution and an obscure font ratio setting that made the install window about 2”x2” and I had to use a magnifying glass to see the labels. I got through the install and reset the display settings and all seemed well. If I hadn’t found the solution online I never would have figured it out.

This is a problem with many applications that employ custom textmetrics and for which it is unfathomable that anyone could be using resolutions above 1920x1200.

I am displeased that because of some feature in Windows 10 I can't play my Age of Empires II (and expansions) anymore. AoE2 requires the disk, but Windows 10 doesn't recognize something special that previous Windows did, so AoE2 doesn't register the disk as in.

We found a Steam version that doesn't require the disk that worked with some adjustment, but it is only the base stuff.

I want my AoE2!

One of my primary homework avoidance systems when I was in grad school. :D

One unresolved problem for me is that the TV tuner does not work. What one do you have and what product did you buy to make it work? I have Winfast. My issue is that the driver is not compatible with Windows 10. Have looked on the Internet and others have had the same problem and no solution has been found.

Media Portal. Its free.

That shouldn't be a problem. You can download a windows 10 installer from microsoft and it remembers your key if you're reinstalling.

Thanks. Yes, if you are reinstalling. However since I changed to the SATA drives as the boot drive, it was not considered a reinstall. Hence the needed step to reinstall the original OS (Windows 7), then do an upgrade (again) from there.
So, if a drive fails, and I cannot boot Windows 10 any more, after replacing the drive, I would have to reinstall Windows 7....

It looks like several people have managed to play it with the expansions in Windows 10: http://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/3fv1a3/aoe_ii_wont_play_after_windows_10_upgrade/

I'll be doing this when I setup the Win10 PCs I got my brother and sister for Christmas. If I discover anything helpful I'll post about it.

Did my first Windows Movie Maker install on Win 10 this evening, worked perfect.

Delvo, I'm guessing somehow the file got corrupted during your download. For reference, I downloaded from the link in the other thread using the new Edge browser, after download Edge had a run option and I used it.

They took away the "David" font. I didn't even know that fonts ever get removed from the collection, not just added.

Fortunately, it still works the same, after I copied the file from the Windows 7 folder to the equivalent Windows 10 folder.

It is rare that they stop including fonts but when they do it's ones like David where they don't own it, it isn't popular with the majority of their user base and they have to pay a licensing fee to distribute it.

Not really, it depends on your language and keyboard choices whether it loads certain supplementary font families. If you need the fonts that support Hebrew - for example "David" you can just add them in Settings>System>Apps & Features>Optional features and then click on the + button and you'll see all the various supplemental fonts.

Thanks. Have installed it. The only good thing about it is that it works. Just. It is slow, I cannot find where it has recorded the programs.

It would have to do until I buy a new computer in about four years time.

You could try NextPVR, also free. Not much faster, but it was easier to set up, and I like the interface better. The EPG guide works better too (I think). I Use MC2XML to grab the EPG info. I used this guide to set it up: http://www.techhive.com/article/296...edia-center-s-dvr-features-in-windows-10.html
Good luck.
