It's time for a Ted Cruz thread.

If I were to vote in the Republican primary I would choose Trump over Cruz.

Trump is crazy and disposed to some fiscal conservative notions who flirts with the idea that he is godlike; but Cruz is a Theocratic Conservative true bleever.

That would be a good thing in the general...for the left, as the independents and even some of the moderate GOP would join the DNC in keeping Cruz out of the White House (and would be key to the left prevailing even if Progressives like myself didn't engage behind an establishment DNC candidate).

There's a difference between crazy idiots and psychotic miscreants.

And to think this was the party of Lincoln.

I'd go with Cruz over Trump because... I don't know. Trump seems more of an embarrassment. Trump may be more of a loose cannon than Cruz. It's a sad state of affairs for the republican party.

All the Great Republican presidents were progressives (Lincoln, T. Roosevelt, Ike, heck even Reagan had a substantial progressive side). The fact that there has never been a Strongly Conservative president should have been a hint that the GOP had saddled up the wrong hobby horse when they jumped aboard the Newt express back in the '90s.

Cruz is tap dancing around his previous position on giving undocumented immigrants legal status (aka amnesty).

In 2013 he argued for an amendment doing just that. And that stuff is all on video. Now he's claiming he meant something completely different than he's on video saying clear as day.

The guy's a very bad liar.

What's ironic is Trump can lie in the face of clear evidence about his past statements and his supporters don't seem to care. But Cruz looks so obviously dishonest I suspect he won't get away with it.

Yeah. Cruz looks like a weasel. Trump just looks weird.

To Trump's supporters Cruz is a typical politician who flip-flops while Trump is too important to play games talking about what he once said because what he says now is what matters.

That is a frightening thought for which I have no evidence to disprove.

Look at his response when asked about Obama's legitimacy.

Yahoo article about Trump interview with Chris Mathews

"I don't answer that question because once I answer the question, they don't want to talk about the economy, they don't want to talk about all the other" issues, Trump replied.

ETA:Joe Arpaio Reminds Everyone That Trump Questioned Obama's Birth Certificate

"If you recall five months ago, I introduced Donald Trump," Arpaio said, introducing Trump as the rally in Mesa, Arizona. "At that time, I said a few things, we have something in common—the birth certificate investigation, which is still going on."

I agreed with your summation. There is plenty of evidence for his followers acting that way and no evidence against it.

ETA THe only thing that frightens me more than the ease with which US citizens can get voter registration cards is the idea of having some group or agency actually vetting people before getting voter registration cards.

Yeah, I figured you did.

I just went looking for one quote and those articles were too much not to share.

This man is actually leading the GOP primary. and not just a flash in the pan like Cain or Huckabee last time, he may actually win. I really have a hard time grasping this.

ETA: Sorry for the Trumpiness of my last few posts in this Cruzian thread. I feel the same about Cruz being the obvious second place. The GOP have lost their bench.

Interesting, how some people only make allowances for the (nearly month to month) evolution of their own candidate's advocacies and policy changes while condemning and whooping over any other candidate's changes of support and
policy proposal, regardless of time between or degree of change.

These two are not alone, most politicians, regardless of party, consider lying to be a part of campaigning.

Here, I started a thread just for this topic. You might want to wipe that egg off your face.

Hilarious, but yes, frightening. As for Cruz being considered smart, I think you are what you do, which makes Cruz an idiot.

Don't underestimate the guy. He may be an idiot, but he's an idiot that got elected US Senator.

Ahem. Ted Cruz and his politics, yes. Each other, not so much. Please stay on topic.

What's hilarious is liberals posting BS from other liberals. Its also interesting libs think he's not smart when super lib himself Alan Dershowitz said that Ted Cruz was among the smartest students he ever taught.

It's really arrogant to say a man who has his credentials is some kind of dummy. It's living in complete and total DENIAL of reality.

Cruz IS smart. He's also an insane religious loon. That's the problem.

Compounded by his willingness to turn on his allies if he think it will promote his cause. There are people in his own party who complain about him.

Ted Cruz is the most hated person in the Senate. Though he and his whackjob supporters see it as a badge of honor.
