It's time for a Ted Cruz thread.

Dream on. His mother was a citizen, just like Obama's.

The difference is that Obama was born in the U.S., Cruz was not. As I understand it, the courts have never decided what "natural-born" citizen really means. The same kinds of questions were raised about John McCain, who was born in the Panama Canal Zone, George Romney (Mitt's dad, born in Mexico) and Barry Goldwater (born in Arizona before it became a state).

It just goes to show you that we should be banning Canadians from entering the US, not Syrians. Those Canucks have done more harm to this country than any Syrians. :D
Ted Cruz, Justin Bieber, Celine Dion. Say no more. :boxedin:

While dual citizenship US/Canada is legal, what do you think about the mother's missing birth certificate? :p

Kidding aside, there actually is another issue, according to Forbes:
“Birth Abroad to Two U.S. Citizen Parents in Wedlock

A child born abroad to two U.S. citizen parents acquires U.S. citizenship at birth under section 301(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) provided that one of the parents had a residence in the United States or one of its outlying possessions prior to the child’s birth. The child is considered to be born in wedlock if the child is the genetic issue of the married couple.”

It would thus appear that for Senator Cruz to qualify as a natural-born citizen under this paragraph, (a) both of his parents would need to be U.S. citizens at the time of birth; and (b) one of the parents had a residence in the US at the time of birth.

That same article comes to the conclusion that he qualifies under a different "path to citizenship."

I don't think this is going to go anywhere. I dislike him a great deal, but don't see any fire with this puff of smoke.

Was it still a US territory at the time? Because it counts the same as a state then.

I'm not saying the questions were legitimate. But when Goldwater ran for President that issue was debated. (Yes, I would think a territory would the same as a state for this purpose.)

I think the questions about Cruz' citizenship are more legitimate than those about Obama's, but I think that both are constitutionally qualified to be President...

Regardless of our druthers, with regard to either one of them.

He was on Morning Edition yesterday, explaining how all those scientists who think global warming is real are part of a vast conspiracty to "control every aspect of society".

He was not exactly compelling.

We probably aren't his target audience.

In what is good news for Cruz, though perhaps no one else:

Cruz and Trump, like being offered Cyanide or Strychnine.

If I were to vote in the Republican primary I would choose Trump over Cruz.

Trump is crazy and disposed to some fiscal conservative notions who flirts with the idea that he is godlike; but Cruz is a Theocratic Conservative true bleever.

That would be a good thing in the general...for the left, as the independents and even some of the moderate GOP would join the DNC in keeping Cruz out of the White House (and would be key to the left prevailing even if Progressives like myself didn't engage behind an establishment DNC candidate).

There's a difference between crazy idiots and psychotic miscreants.

choosing between Cruz and Trump to me is like choosing between Ebola and a new strain of Cholera. :boggled:

I agree. There is a difference between the guy who says "we are going to do this because I think it is a good idea and I am a genius" and the guy who says "We are going to do this because I know exactly what Jesus wants America to become."

I feel much the same about virtually all of the GOP candidates and Hillary. They may be different strains, but either way you're stricken with a lethal, largely conservative, establishment disease and we just can't afford that partisan lessor evil luxury.

There is, an entire poll thread on this topic.
