I have a different position on this.
First off, there are perfectly reasonable non religious people to consider murder abhorrent. Biggest one is probably empathy. We can feel what it is like to be in another person's position.
That said, I want to get into this case. I have read police discussions about burglary cases where the burglar eats food from the home, uses the toilet (some have been known to do that on the bed with a person sleeping on the bed.) Such individuals often graduated to more heinous crimes with to common ones being rape and murder.
That is what I am worried about with Rudy. He will be released and six months to a year later he will rape and murder another woman.
Rudy can cause serious damage to Perugia's police leadership, prosecutors, and the local judges who heard aspects of the case if he tells the truth about what happened that night and how his attorney signalled him not to correct Mignini's scenario. For that reason, the police leadership, Mignini, Comodi, and others have an interest in Rudy being rehabilitated and psychological stable. He is in an education program. Rudy will be placed in a structured and supportive work and living situation when he is released. He will be monitored. He will be instructeon not to discuss the crime with anyone and not to talk to journalists.
If successful, his rehab in prison will change him so that he is no longer a threat to society.
