375,000 book sales in the publishing world is huge. It's a hard task to sell 35.000.

I'm pretty sure an "Ann Coulter" is not, in fact, a real person. At least not a fully functioning one. The Internet is great.
 
You need to Google "average book sales" but she's right, that 375,000 is big. At what, thirty dollars a piece (if they're all hard cover), that's roughly eleven million dollars in sales. Less of course, if a sizable portion is paperback. Meantime the "average book sales" is an anemic 250 copies per year. :eek:

It doesn't, however, lend much legitimacy to Coulter. One could safely assume that many people read her books for her controversial opinions. Given the quotes Tricky produced, she's not a Mark Twain. :)

I agree with you. There have always been writers of popular literature that are clever at tapping into contemporary issues to produce work that sells well at that time. These books are usually forgotten and, when they come to light in future years, seem biased and of little value.

I think Ann Coulter is a master at telling a specific audience what they want to hear. Her books work at an emotional level -- and she's clever at doing that -- but not at an intellectual level. Most of her arguments fall apart when they are seriously parsed. I'm sure her books will be seen to have little lasting value and will be forgotten in time.

I think she's one of those pop figures that, twenty years from now, no one will remember and she'll be reduced to a minor footnote in American political history.

In fact she just wrote a column about how "liberals" always complain the death penalty is too expensive but that's only because of all the safeguards the same wimpy liberals always insist on. Ann's idea? Drop the safeguards and switch to an all-volunteer firing squad. She'd jump at the chance to volunteer and she bets a lot of other folks would too! That could even turn into a profit center according to Ms. Coulter.

I'd pay for the opportunity, especially if they promise my gun won't have a blank. Link
