Wonder Women "Ladies Only" Screening Brouhaha...

You think if I started a thread about housing discrimination it would go 9 pages?

The things that get people fired up around here...

Anyone who succeeded in overcoming their spittle soaked poutrage long enough to actually click on the announcement link which CNN so thoughtfully provided ... and read it, of course ... will have learned that this "special night" is two days from right now. Tues., June 6.

Wait. Wait. No. I mean, I knew they were whiny diaperbabies, but this isn't even a pre-release thing? Are you kidding me? What in the world can they possibly even be complaining about then? That officially makes this shoot all the way off the far end of the Idiocy Chart into a zone that we may have to make up new words for. I literally cannot think of how to describe just how dumb this is.

June 6th? I mean... if it's that important to you you would have already seen it by the 6th, and if for some reason you didn't have time until then you can still see it at ANY OTHER THEATER. Wow.

Pretty big hooha over what looks like a pretty bad movie.

Actually, FYI, it was really good. It maybe suffered a teeny bit from the hype because that made me go in expecting perfection, but the dumb or slow parts were still not as bad as most superhero movies and there were more than enough good parts to cancel those out. In the ranking of all the Marvel Cinematic Universe / DC Extended Universe movies, I'd put it way above the other DC ones and somewhere in the top five of the Marvel ones (hard to pin down an exact number since it partly depends on my mood).

The fun part is when you realize that most of the people complaining have absolutely no intention to see the movie regardless of seating arrangements. :D

In fairness, housing discrimination is about minority groups that are historically discrimated against and the related societal issues that creates. No one cares about any of that.

This thread is about a privileged group being denied their privilege for one brief moment, and superhero movies. Clearly, much more important topics.

"Culinary staff" would be whatever the person who wrote the announcement wanted it to be. It isn't exactly a technical term.

And it is entirely possible that whoever works in whatever they might have for a kitchen will indeed all be women that one night during that one screening. How many people are we talking about, do you think? Two? Three? Four?

Possibly even every night. Who knows? Do you? Can you contradict the claim with anything even vaguely resembling evidence, or even likelihood?

Some people are trying waaayyyy too hard to work up anything they can to be poutraged about.

It looks like the most parsimonious explanation is that there isn't anything there worthy of even a little, teeny, tiny poutrage.

Sorry to disappoint.

You have nothing to apologize for. I'm not disappointed. I don't think there's actually been that much outrage anyway. As far as I can tell, there's been more outrage about the supposed wave of MRA outrage, than there has been any actual wave itself.

The question of how the theater is normally staffed, versus how they say it will be staffed for this showing, is mildly interesting to me from a semantic perspective. Please don't mistake my remarks about the connotation of "culinary staff" for an attempt to justify outrage.

Actually, it's kind of a funny case in point: You're more upset about my opinion of the term "culinary staff", than I am upset about its use in the first place.

The first of these screenings took place in Brooklyn last night, and somehow, society didn't crumble.

Also, all the social media trolls proved themselves to be the trolls that they are, because apparently none of them bothered to show up and protest this grave injustice. That includes super-troll Stephen Miller who demonstrated himself to be in it for the lulz rather than principle.

But then again, maybe I'm being unfair. Maybe these brave Warriors for Equality were too busy prepping their next heroic protest for this event, which I'm sure has them all beside themselves with righteous indignation.

That would be unlikely, since I'm not "upset" about that, or even about the whole kerfuffle in general.

"Mildly amused" would be a better description.

Watching the usual suspects trying so desperately to build a house of cards on the mud that was the OP, a post remarkably dense with distortions and errors considering its brevity, without apparently even bothering to read the article cited by the OP or the theater's actual announcement which was linked to in that article. The two of which basically discounted or contradicted most if not all of the OP.

Working up a froth of indignation over a completely imaginary, non-existent slight against the bastion of American male privilege, which they see as eroding away at a pace that apparently terrifies them.

They've managed to spew their poutrage over nine pages of people trying to reason with them, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.

I said "mildly" amused. To be honest I think it's a hoot. Sort of a verbal slapstick performance art.

Going to see it at the Alamo after work on Thursday. As I watch the movie at 7:00pm I'll be thinking about how much better the 7:30pm screening for women is.

Almost as if there wasn't any real outrage to begin with.

But then again, maybe "these brave Warriors for Equality" don't really exist, except as a boogeyman of your imagination.

Their Facebook page is absolutely plastered with complaints from men, so I'm pretty sure these people exist.

If a troll posts on the Internet, does it make a sound?
Yes. It also makes a sound if an approximately sincere MRA posts on the internet, so "It makes a sound" seems like a useless heuristic for distinguishing between them.

You're right, these "Warriors for Equality" don't exist. Because they're trolls, plain and simple. They act out of spite and prettiness rather than actual principle. Like all trolls.

They exist right here in this thread.

Theprestige must be skipping over the posts that disagree with his assertions.

I guess it's easier that way.

ETA: Okay. I get it. It's a No True Warrior™ argument.

I believe the preferred nomenclature is "fake news".

Who here in this thread would you say provides the most representative example of the kind of outrage you're referring to?

Which of quadraginta's posts would you say provides the most representative example of him being upset about your opinion of the term "culinary staff"?

I referred to "poutrage". It is something like "outrage", only whinier and with less actual cause.

And if you need me to pick them out for you then that alone makes it pretty obvious you would disagree with the assessment whenever I did. You've read the same thread I have. why should I even bother?

Sarcasm aside, I can't imagine you have missed all the posts whining about the violations of Constitutional rights against men, or the unfair segregation of them, or any of the other unfounded complaints about their ill-treatment as a result of this film screening based on a distorted and factually inaccurate OP.
