Wonder Women "Ladies Only" Screening Brouhaha...

You mentioned white privilege when it had nothing to do with the topic, which hints at some ideological foundation.

I did use the words "white" and "privileged" together in a sentence. I did not use the term "white privelege".

In fact your entire contribution in this thread has been nothing but dismissive of men in general, to say nothing of the constant strawmen.

That's incorrect.

I didn't say you did. But plausible deniability's a pretty weak defense. The two are interchangeable. What's "privileged" about them? The fact that they're white and male?

If their whiteness and maleness made them privileged, I wouldn't have needed to add the descriptor "privileged".

I do like the costume, it's well-designed and looks functional. I do want to see it this week hanging on my bedpost.

FTFY, amirite? :D

And can we just kill this thread?
No one arguing against this being a non-issue has added anything of value in pages at this point.

Who am I kidding... this stain of a thread will last for months.

I'm more bummed that the US "brand" has become so spoiled that Wonder Woman no longer has her red white and blue uniform, and that the story takes place in the UK after WW1 (if I heard correctly) instead of in the US after WWII.

I read that 70% of all Hollywood movie tickets purchased are done outside the US, so we are not the target audience anyways. I guess the US has better taste in movies than I thought.

Takes place During World War One. Most of it on the Western Front, with only a ten minute sequence set in London. And the main male character is an American.
Her costume is indeed red, white and blue, though without the stars.
As a couple of other said, the switch from WW2 to WW1 was probably to keep it from looking like a "Captain America:First Avenger" clone.

I have an idea. Let's ban American movies from being shown overseas to force them to focus on an American audience. America First! MAGA!

Do you often confuse mockery with whining?

Looks like you've been triggered. Now you're whining about me asking about your whining. Let's get back to the topic. If the people this is directed at don't care, why are you whining about it? Do these strong independent women require an internet tough guy like yourself to do their whining for them?

...i really want to have a "blacks only" viewing of Black Panthrt.

Just to infuriate these idiots.

So, Alamo Drafthouse has basically undercut most of its own defenders in this thread regarding legality.

They admit they screwed up and that their advertising (which they claim was "tongue-in-cheek") was illegally discriminatory. Oops! They argue that the screenings themselves were not illegal since nobody was actually prevented from buying tickets or attending, and as far as I know that part is true.

Please please please do that! That would be great.

We would then be able to finally kill the myth that people like you are against racism.

Thanks for the follow up on this story, it's always good to see that I did understand the legal issues correctly.

Ya that's me wearin' my hat, gall dern it!

I just thought she was from America but I looked it up and she is not, so I care even less than I did. I'm not seeing enough new threads here. Gawd I'm in a Wonder Woman thread. Again!

I think too many American movies suck these days, including many super hero movies.

One positive thing about Netflix is the amount of good "foreign" films. I don't know of any other way foreign films are really presented or available to Americans. Many or even most people I ask have never watched a non-English language film.

Hollywood is like the _______ of movies. Fill in the blank - I was gonna say 'Walmart' but it seems wrong.

One of the big things being discussed in the acting community right now (at least below the star level) is that American actors/actress, particularly the younger up & coming types, are being cast by their social media following, whereas their foreign counterparts are he ng cast because they actually hone their craft.
