Why I hate America

Why do you actually hate the American flag, limited government and home schooling?

The flag is just a flag; is it possible you actually mean those people who wrap themselves ion the flag and burn the constitution?

So when you hate limited government, does this mean you want more government?

What do you have against homeschooling?
Ranb

IIRC, the Supreme Court strike against laws forbidding home schooling were a kick in the butt of the Republicans, who wanted to outlaw people from teaching their own kids German during WWI.

Now the Republicans have adopted it and the left doesn't like what gets taught, or maybe the Republicans want to gut the teachers' unions, who largely vote Democratic, which is why the Democrats want to preserve public education, and neither side really cares about children, though both mouth that they do as the rationale for their position.

There are other rulings, but this one is about the government forbidding knowledge the parents want to teach.

I'm surprised he didn't list "milkshakes" or "sex". Hey, I like it, so libruls gonna hate it.
No no no.

Sex is not supposed to be fun, according to Liberty University. It's an obligation, the marital sex, missionary position type. Other types of sex are sin. It's those damn evil libruls who like sex, all kinds of deviant sex, like gay sex or donkey sex.

Johnny Cash is just a weird one considering some of his best work was with Rick Rubin. Liking Johnny Cash is probably super liberal.

Take for example Colin Kapernick's not standing for the American anthem. Some people saw this as a sign of great disrespect for America. And now he is being blackballed from his profession.

But what could be more American than a nonviolent protest? Whether you agree or disagree with his grievances, shouldn't he have the right to stand up or in this case kneel for what he believesn? What does a piece of cloth matter compared to the basic principles that this great nation was founded?

Sigh. For the umpteenth time, yes, Kaepernick had a right to protest, and as far as I know, nobody has suggested throwing him in jail, which is essentially all that right guarantees. He does not have a right to protest free of consequences from potential employers.

And while I note that many sportswriters seem to assume that Kaepernick has been blackballed, none of them know what type of deal Kaepernick wants. Yes, there was an outcry from the media sob-sisters when the 49ers signed Blaine Gabbert, who is pretty clearly a worse quarterback. But what we don't know is whether Kaepernick would have signed the same deal (I doubt it).

But lets entertain your premise. How do you think Kaepernick should have protested so that he could get Americans that now hate him to agree with him that cops shouldn't be allowed to murder people?

Gee, I agree with him already on that point. See how easy that was?

I'm a liberal. I admit it. Heck I'm proud of it. In fact those online poll things often say I'm actually a socialist...and Dean from Supernatural. Which is so bogus since I'm clearly Sam!

So of course when I see that far right wing blog Charismanews has posted a list of all the things I hate about America...well I can't but help read it. Surely it will be refreshing to see all the things I hate spelled out in list form.

Well I was sure in for a surprise. Turns out I hate things like "success" and "cheeseburgers" which I could have sworn I liked. In fact it turns out I hate "The American People" as a whole which surely also I was unaware of.

Actually here it is and I color coded it. Bold for things I actually like, highlights for things I think are largely good but with some need for fixing and a strike through for the things I actually hate. I hope the mods will allow this since I'm commenting on the whole of the thing.

Fellow liberals, how did the list reflect your hatreds?

You ticked off 28 of the items on the list, and want to congratulate yourself for not picking the other 72? I would only check one of the 100 items (Alex Jones of course).

I never said that his protest should be illegal or that the right protects one from all consequences. The point though is that patriotism rings awful hollow when we don't respect the freedom to protest non-violently. Don't wave that flag around me when you don't honor such a core principle. It tells me that the flag is just a prop.

Don't tell me there aren't teams out there that wouldn't make a deal for Kap.

I don't know if it's liberal but I sure as hell like him. I can live without the religion but he has never been one to be holier than thou and cram it down anyone's throats.

We need term for this. Belief in substantive freedom of speech?

May you expire in peaceful silence, and with no accolades.

... This open contempt for patriotism is one reason the left keeps losing the swing vote in elections..and that is ahigh price to pay for feeling superior to all those flag loving Blue Collar Proles..

Is that a factor in US elections, open contempt for patriotism? Who in recent elections has run for office supported by people openly disdainful?

Reason I ask is, don't know if this is a claim that Dem policies are unpatriotic.

By the way, number 10 on the list, the rule of law, to most Republicans and most certainly to the person compiling the list, is meant to refer to law and order. The rule of law goes swooshing way, way over their little theocratic bobbing noggins.

There is no core principle that says you can protest non-violently without any consequences. The core principle is that you can protest non-violently without any legal consequences.

I will take your word for it then.

I don't think so. But the Republicans have a real tendency to really wrap themselves in the flag. It's like if they wrap themselves in that red white and blue they can get away with anything.

Notice that pretty much every single Republican politician wouldn't be caught dead without their flag pin. It is so overused it is meaningless.

Let's be honest about this. The flag is used to promote every military excursion. So what do you do if you oppose it? It's a difficult situation. Does that make you less patriotic? Are you really less American if you don't want to go out and napalm anyone who opposes US policy abroad?

I guess we see things differently. Freedom of speech, particularly when it involves political speech is sacred to me. That an employer should be able through financial coercion limit the speech of their employees is antithetical to that right.
