Why Elizabeth Warren doesn't need to take a DNA test

Pretty interesting takes so far for a bunch of purported skeptics.
Just believe whatever this lady says, and any actual inquiry into the truth of the matter is out of bounds, because... reasons.

Is any claim a person makes about their race or heritage debatable or up for legitimate scrutiny?

No.it is a pointless exercise. The amount of scrutiny is illegitimate.

I think people are simply critical of the out-of-proportion demand being made of Ms. Warren. I'm quite fine with people not believing her claim. And unless she's attempting to use her claim about heritage to garner special favor or benefits, I'm also quite fine with her refusing to waste her time on such a frivolous demand.

"I'm not interested in the truth" would've been quicker to type.

But "I don't believe her claim that she is part Native American" is not a search for truth at all.

If I said I had German heritage, does being a "skeptic" mean you have to question it? What is it about her claim that makes it questionable? Does it seems surprising or unusual that she would have native american heritage? What is the basis for being skeptical of it in the first place?

As noted, if she were using it in some way to gain an advantage, then, sure, look into it. But she isn't. It's not an issue (good, bad, or otherwise) to anyone except those that are searching for something to criticize her for.

Seriously, what is your reason to doubt her story that she was told growing up that she had Cherokee ancestry? And if she was told she had Cherokee ancestry, then whats wrong with her saying she did?

Why do I get the feeling that, if you substituted the name Donald Trump for Elizabeth Warren, BTC would be defending Trump not taking a DNA test?

Nah, you're thinking of it the wrong way.

Warren, and her family, state that they have a Native American ancestor. Noe of them claim membership in any tribe, and evidence suggests that Warren did not use this to any advantage. In truth, she only discusses it now when others decide to screech about it.

I don't care about her ancestor - I do care about people who use illegitimate claims to their advantage, but she doesn't seem to have done so. In other words, I have no more reason to care about her family stories than about yours, or anyone else's. And nobody has shown me why I *should* care.

Similarly, I don't particularly care whether or not Dolt 45 has Klansmen in his family history - it's vastly more important that he a well-documented history of open white supremacism that begins in the 1970s, and clearly continues to this day. This is quite enough for me to consider his use of "Pocahontas" to be a racial slur - as well as the use by people who voted for him.

I'm not super clear on the details, so maybe I'm off here, but didn't Warren claim to "be" a Native American, and not just have some amount of NA ancestry way back when?

It's probably an arbitrary line, where a person gets to identify as a particular race or ethnicity if they so choose, but an obviously white lady claiming to be a native american... well that's a little weird. It seems some native americans have been upset by this.

But then the goalposts have moved. Now it's not even if she is a native american, because obviously she does not appear to be. Now it's "is there even any NA in her ancestry at all"?

But you can't discuss that, apparently. It's just an odd case.

Her claim amounted to 1/32

It's not about believing her or disbelieving her. Its about not caring enough to require proof.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, ordinary irrelevant claims don't really require proof at all. If she said she went out to dinner last night and had chicken you wouldn't ask for proof would you?

There is no reason to disbelieve her, frankly there is no real reason to actually care.

Feels like you're quibbling over semantics. I don't ever recall her being a full-blooded Native American, if that's what you're implying. I'm willing to be proven wrong, if you find a citation.

This is assuming that anyone is a "full-blooded Native American" anymore.

I think you're the one moving the goal posts. When did she claim to anything more than, I think, 1/32 ancestry?

What Native Americans are upset about Warren?

I never used the term "full blooded" at any point.

Also, consider this take as a decent summation of my point:

Trump lies, so it's ok if other people lie too.

He really is winning. God help us all.

It's not that at all. If Warren says she is a tiny bit Native American because that is what she believes then it is not a lie. This differs from Trump who deliberately tells falsehoods because he thinks he can get away with it. For example, Billy Bush corrected Trump once when Trump said the apprentice was the highest rated show on tv when it wasn't even close. After, the show Trump scolded him for correcting him saying that people will believe almost anything you tell them.

I see we're back to "But, but she doesn't look Native American"

So tell me, what does a native american look like?
