Merged Why does Trump lie about EVERYTHING?/Commander in Cheat

Doesn't matter. The fact remains that, if nothing else, he and his personality built the Trump name into something that generated money all on it's own. He parlayed it into licensing deals, a popular TV show and the US Presidency. Even if the image is all myth and he is worth far less than he says he is, the lying still works for him. That part of it was and is pretty brilliant, even if it's a twisted kind of brilliance.

Lying, cheating and sowing division may have worked for him, but it is only brilliant like a cubic zirconia is brilliant. It may sparkle, but it is still worthless.

Like Trump University.

Sure. The fact that there could be something marketable called "Trump University," is pretty amazing, no? Even if it turned out to be a scam.

Yes, he is little more than a shady salesman. But he has been a pretty successful shady salesman, no matter what you think of him. All that alleged fraud and tax shenanigans? He got away with it pretty cleanly. I'm not saying he was right or that this proves he is brilliant businessman -far from it. It just goes to show that his lies have always worked for him and his business interests. They worked well for him while he was siphoning off his dad's money and assets. They worked well when he was playing with real estate valuations to suit his financial interests and no one called him on it. They worked so well for him that he could use them to catapult himself to the top political position in the US.

Exactly. Brilliant in the same way Jeffry Dahmer convinced authorities to let him to again get hold of one of his victims who escaped, and then eat him.

You keep using post-hoc logic. I'm sure you'd agree Kim Il Sung was a brilliant statesman, because if he weren't he wouldn't have been able to murder anyone who said otherwise. And that Nigerian prince fellow has been a fine, trustworthy chap so far.

I hope this has not turned you into an acolyte.

Uh. . . . no. I'm not really sure how you get there, but I disagree.

No he actually hasn't been a successful shady businessman, that was his slumlord father and grandfather. He has at best barely managed at best break even on his inheritance. Shouldn't a successful businessman actually do better than break even?

No. All I'm trying to do is answer the question: Why does he lie? Because it has worked for him his whole life and got him where he is today.

I'm not talking about how successful he is at business. I'm talking about the carefully cultivated image of success that he managed to sell the public on. That image made his name marketable. That image got him a successful TV show. That image got him elected POTUS.

That's something. Maybe not "successful businessman," so much as "successful celebrity." He pulled a Kim Kardashian before Kim Kardashian was out of diapers.

Well that does show signs then that we will have a Kardashian president someday, as they are far better at the professional celebrity that Trump, they make it pay and build billion dollar brands from nothing more than a sex tape with a C list celebrity. Trump turns billion dollar businesses into million dollar ones.

You can thank Mark Burnett for that.

Trump is a lying POS not worthy of the toilet paper used to wipe him from the crack of America's ass.

All you're really arguing is that Trump with the help of a television producer pulled off a con.

That he was a successful grifter. So what?

So, the answer to the OP question is: “Trump lies so much because it works for him and always has.” Simple as that.

Some people aren't happy with the real reason why they voted for him and persuaded others to vote for him. The cognitive dissonance makes them (want to) think that John Barron was an extremely clever trick, the sign of a very stable genius whose I.Q. is one of the highest.

But it hasn't worked for him time and again. He lies because he is incapable of believing in any kind of serious truth. It is all what ever he thinks makes him look best right now and if it is different in 5 minutes then that is fine.
