It evolves...Jackson Pollock for a long while, more recently Carivaggio and Valazquez. Also, love Hopper.
 
Impossible to pick a favorite. Marc Chagall comes to mind at the moment.

 
Since many responses to this thread will no doubt be modern artists, I'll make a pitch for one of my favorite old-timers. Here's a work from 15 century French painter Jean Fouqet. When I first saw it at the Royal Museum in Antwerp, I was blown away.

Another (I think underappreciated) classic artist: Johann Liss. I love his stuff.

I'm also a big fan of Vermeer, some of his portraits are incredible.

I encourage everyone to peruse the entirety of these websites as they will undoubtedly contain art that few people are familiar with, and images that will stick in your mind at the very edge of sleep. Obviously, I don't appreciate art that matches your sofa or drapes. :)
 
Funnily enough, my favorite painter is Domenicos Theotokopoulos.

My favorite artist, however, is Edward Gorey.
 
El Greco? Yup, I like him too. And he looks good in a swimsuit, too! ;)

I'd put mine, but it varies with time, inclination, mood... I always like Turner or Sorolla, and lately I'm partial to Brueghel, El Bosco or Egon Schiele.

Of course, my all-time favorite is my mom. :blush:
