Who's your favorite painter ?

Yeah, but it's raining Frenchmen. That should cool you down. :p
No, it's raining Belgians, of course. ;)

My favorite painters have already been named: Tamara de Lempicka, Edward Hopper, René Magritte, Marc Chagall.

Unsurprisingly, Gustav Klimt (my avatar is one of his portraits).

When I was a kid I was crazy about Cezanne. He's still about at the top of my list, though it's a pretty long list. There aren't many impressionists, post-impressionists and their ilk that I don't like.

I'll second (or third, or whatever) Franz Marc too. One of my favorites of his:

I can't quite remember the name of the artist. See paints flowers, huge things. I saw a piece of her work, a black flower, possibly a viola or pansy. Very stunning.

There also was, not sure if its still there, in an art shop in Stratford was an artist who painted drunks. His art was stunning but again I have forgotten the name.

I like art that is as good as relatively close up as it is at distance. Van Gogh's art does nothing for me I find it messy.

I've always had much love for the Flemish Primitive painters, more specifically for Jan Van Eyck. (abcgallery.com/E/eyck/eyck.html)

I'm also very fond of Fra Angelico and Albrecht Dürer

In slightly more modern works, I favor Mucha, Van Gogh and Magritte, who were already mentioned and Jack Vettriano (news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/3611211.stm)

I also have a huge soft spot for Marjolein Bastin's watercolours. (marjoleinbastin.com)

Sheesh it's like asking about my favorite chocolate...

There was a Monet exhibit in Phoenix a few years ago. Mostly scenes from his famous garden. I had no idea they were so big. They really were something worth seeing up close at a museum.

ESPECIALLY if you have seen the actual paintings up close! They are inevitably MUCH brighter and crisper and beautiful than in any book or photograph. Gorgeous!

Quite agreed :) I HAVE seen some of the originals.. Stunning

No but i was reminded of a song by one of the funniest men in Denmark. In the song he describes the life of a young man growing up by the posters on his wall. When he was young it was the famous "Che Guevara" poster and now it is a Monet reproduction :)

But it's an inside joke i know...

Boo

Is it me, or are these reminiscent of something? ...

I can't put my finger on it.

Should any Monet lovers happen to be in the Hartford, Connecticut area, make sure you try to get to the Hill-Stead museum in Farmington. It's a small museum based on a very impressive private collection, including a couple of grand Monets that have been in the house since the family bought them from Monet.

Very eclectic

Caravaggio: Salome with the Head of John the Baptist, and The Calling of Saint Matthew

Salvador Dali: The Eye, The Disintigration of the Persistence of Memory.

Dean Morrissey for whimsy.

Monet, Georgia O'Keefe, LOVE Norman Rockwell, Klimt, and sadly, I haven't figured out how to add a pic, so I hope I've been appropriately descriptive.

Best,

A
