Who's your favorite painter ?

Maxfield Parrish, Roger Dean and Norman Rockwell (love his attention to detail). I must also admit that after seeing a Frank Frazetta documentary, I've taken a liking to him.

Fayga Ostrower is one of them. I met her before she died in 2001 and, on behalf of a mutual friend, did some ghost-writing for an article published in a newspaper the week she died.
Thanks, I would probably would not have heard of her without your input!!!:)
Her works from the 80's - death are wonderful!!:) I have put that site in favorites.

Feel free to put in more samples of her work:) :) :) !!

Thanks, fuelair and Babylon Sister! I'm afraid the photos don't make her work justice, you'd have to see the colors live. Or I'd have to get a better camera... :D

I'll upload more pics when I get home. I really do like her work; she's gotten bolder and more free with time, and even though both my father and I tell her when we don't like something, we normally gush over her paintings.

Yes, do. She really has a personal style. If she has more works like the one you linked to she could very well be doing this professionally (if she doesn't already).

And I love Bosch too. How can someone not love him ? And Goya ?

Some great new (for me) names here :)

As promised, here are a few more examples of my mother's artwork, please excuse the self-indulgent derail of this post. It's just that she is just so good! :drools: :boxedin:

Albufera: a deceptively simple painting that for some reason I adore.

Corvallis: fall in Corvallis. The pic resolution is bad and the colors are a bit overexposed, but you get the idea; she adored it there and went wild with her palette.

Balcony: an andalusian balcony. My mom loves white and paints it whenever she can.

Spanish house: another example of white and light. It's just a house in my village. But look at the wires in the façade!

Valley in autumn: a valley in central Spain during the fall. She went for flat, bright, superimposed colors and we liked the painting so much that we haven't sold it. It's in a place of honor in our house.

Light and shadows: summer sunlight playing along a wall. This is another one of those when you have to see the original to really get how well she managed the sunlight and the atmosphere.

El Greco, she does it professionally, but in a dilettante sort of way. Whenever she has the time and energy to spare, and can find the place, she exhibits her work and sells it. She also sells to friends and acquaintances. Gives away lots of stuff too, to my father's and my constant annoyance. She deserves to be paid, dammit!

Your mom is awesome, Morwen! I, too, adore Albufera. I would love to have one like it in my bedroom (the colors are just right!). If she's got any in a similar color scheme and style that she'd like to sell, let me know! (Not sure if she's in my price range right now...)

These are my favorites. I'd be happy to have either one in my home.

Albufera: Lots of movement without being "busy."

Spanish House: Simple, clean and elegant. I can feel the sun on my back.

Morwen, your mom has a freedom in her paintings that I can only aspire to have. She's really, really, really good and I hope she gets the same happiness from painting them as we do out of seeing them. I've known at least one person who was really quite good but didn't enjoy doing it, even with encouragement and support.

Amazing indeed. Light And Shadows, Albufera and La Casa De Llavata are my favorites.

Thanks all! My mom has just read all your kind comments and appreciates them all sincerely. It's good to have people from all over the world who can share love for art through the internet, I'm just tickled pink that you like her work!

Just to be original: Arthur Villeneuve.

/Not really, but I love to go for obscure figures. Otherwise I'd just say Rubens or something.
