Who's *planning* to attend TAM 7?

Any other fellow university students going to tam this year? This is going to be my first tam and i wanted to know if there are any other students going to be there.

Also I'm trying to bring some of my under 21 friends to tam with me. Are there any ways for me to sneak them into the bars with me?

I guess I could always start an illegal bar in my hotel room. :)

Trying to get the UCLA Skeptics group out there this year.

eta: I'd be a lot happier if you didn't try to get your underage friends drinks because I'd like my drinking (if I'm there) to happen as peacefully as possible. Nothing will probably stop y'all from the hotel bars, but I wouldn't risk getting them a drink.

No worries, I won't cause a scene or anything. Its not like Canadians are known for their crazy parties lol. I'm trying to pass the word around my campus as well. Hopefully I can do my part to pass a little skepticism around. But seeing how we only have one atheist/skeptic club and like n [where n is a large integer] religious clubs on campus i can only make so much of a difference.

It's funny my school is just as secular as the rest I would say but we actually
have a few colleges that are associated with uwaterloo that are religious school of the christian variety. Its a little unsettling how Canada does not have a separation of church and state clause in our constitution. Some of our tax dollars go towards funding faith based school. [from elementary to university]

I guess that's a little update from your friendly neighbours to the north.

I really want to go, but lost my job a week ago. I don't know what I'm going to do. I received a scholarship last year and shouldn't request one this time. I still have time to make a decision.

Can you come up with a coherent reason why this is so?

Sunday too. Which is when I am going. Who's with me?
I'll be in on that, if I can afford it. I don't want to miss out on the Talent Show on Saturday.

Nah, I decided that it is not meant to be this year, but donated a little cash to help someone else go.
Thank you. I and others who have applied for a scholarship really appreciate this.

Isn't it time for someone to compile the current list of attendees?

Now that registration is open, I say we let this thread wither and die and begin work on the official TAM 7 Roll Call thread.

I've just been officially offered a scholarship.

My trip to the States is now one small step closer than it was. Thanks everyone who has donated to the scholarship fund.

It's not right for me to request a scholarship 2 years in a row - there are more deserving people who've never been to a TAM and should have the opportunity to go. Seems coherent to me... ;)

I say apply for a scholarship, JREF will decide whether you are deserving. :) I don't see a problem with getting a scholarship 2 years running tbh.

Just a question regarding P+T's show. Does anyone know whether the show has changed since 2006?
I went two years in a row. About 50% overlap. (2007 and 2008)

Yeah, I decided to get off my fat ass and go for it. I submitted my membership fee today, so as soon as that comes, I'll sign up for TAM. I'm just torn between reserving the hotel with the JREF discount or the hotels.com one. I can afford both (of course if someone wanted to go in halvesies I wouldn't complain), but I'm philosophically opposed to spending more than I have to.
YAY

My son was 20, and went into the Garden Bar several nights, where most of the people hung out. A couple people bought him drinks, but he was careful not to get drunk, rowdy, etc., so that he wouldn't be asked to leave, or get others in trouble.

Unlike his mother.:duck:

Well, despite months of saving, I'm out.

I figure since I don't have a job anymore, and there's no telling when I can get another one, I have to downshift into horribly frugal gear. So, I'm going to miss TAM this year. Aside from TAM itself, I'm really going to miss scaring everyone on the flight with me, by looking like a shaved Hagrid crammed into an airplane. Seriously, I'm 6'6" 400 lbs, I use 2 seats, and the seat-backs only come up to my armpits. Flying is like riding in a gocart, except... you know, someone else is steering.

In any case, my mom wants to go next year, so I'll probably be there next year, and I'll be there with my mom, who in her 60s only recently moved toward the skeptical light. I think her loud and annoying son might have had some impact on that.

Well, you kids have fun. I'll see y'all in 2010.

Big Frankie

P.S.: 2010... Where the heck is my jetpack? We can clone stuff, we have laser weapons, I want my jetpack.

Crap! I read your posts the other night and have been meaning to say I remember you, apologize for not saying hello and mention I'd seek you out at TAM 7.

Any chance a scholarship grant and some personal appeals for donations might make a difference?
