Who's going to TAM3??

The Bad Astronomer said:
Randi wants to diversify the speaker list, and I've given talks at both previous TAMs. Also, as a consolation prize, I get to MC. :D
The real reason is that Phil will be all speeched out after his Southern Cross Tour in November.

I think that I should at least be able to make sure Mr.Randi's supply of root beer is kept fresh.

Ah hon, never fear, you and kitty can do that for me. I won't complain.

And Luciana, geez, an alphabetized list? At first I thought I was first on the list because I showed a picture of you and me together at TAMII, but then I realized you were just being bureaucratic. Oh well.

If I'd been coming, I would have been at number 23.

For the literary minded, what was Sidney Carton's position in the execution queue?

(Well, I do have a humanities degree!)

How do astronomers list stars, nebulae and galaxies? Randomly? :p

It's depending on a lot of things going right at this point, but right now I'm 100% going. Unfortunately school starts here on the 6th of Jan., and I'm going to need sponsorship to be able to stay here in the UK. If I can get my school to sponsor me for a UK visa, while telling them I can't start until after TAM3, I should be ok.

Fingers crossed! This party definately needs an Aussie to liven it up!

Wi-Fi at Stardust

Just saw in the news that Stardust has added Wi-Fi to the entire resort.

And yes, I'll be there.

Yeah, but the Americans can't understand you. It's not a problem for us Europeans, though, we are used to listening to all kinds of funny pronoun-sai-she-ons of English.... :)

I disagree. I could understand everybody at TAM2 just fine - except Peter Bowditch. I suspect he didn´t even speak English.

Yeah, that´s about what I understood at Mr Bowditch´s talk :)

I have no idea what language that is supposed to be - it certainly isn´t German...

Actual conversation between myself and a woman selling chocolates in a store in Hamburg.

I hand the woman my credit card, and smile.

She looks at credit card and says, (in very strong German accent in a strong loud voice)

"I see you are an American!"

me "yyyeeesssss?"

"I know this as you have a flyer credit card from an American airline, I am going to speak to you in English so you will know that Germans are friendly and like the Americans. At least no matter what others say, I like Americans. So even if the other Germans not like Americans you can say that at least one German was nice and did not try to hurt of trick you in any way. When you go back home you will say that Germans are nice, YES?"

After I wet my pants, I spent the rest of the time looking for the Germans that hated Americans and were waiting to trick or hurt me.

Seems like she was trying a little too hard to be non-threatening. I wouldn't have eaten that chocolate if I were you. It might have come out a special "stupid American tourist" batch. seems they never got over WWII. Thats why when I go over seas I always claim Canadian citizenship. No one hates the Canadians.

Except Americans of cource:D

I suspect this was not because WW2. It was because some zombie-patriotic ****heads continue to declare that Europeans hate Americans. It was because, in their holy righteous ****brained fury, they cannot tell the difference between disagreement and hatred.

One last time: we do not hate you. We disagree with you. And that´s it.

Okay. I may never stop laughing.

Thank you Luciana for getting me on your list. Just to add another, my brother Kevin, aka Kevinsbikes will be with me too. He doesn't visit the Forum often, but he will be at TAM3 like we were last year.

Thanks again and I look forward to seeing you all there!

Looks like I'll be bringing the Huntswoman with me. The Huntskid will be staying with HuntsGrandma and HuntsPawpaw, though. He's in his "how much can I get away with" stage right now, I could just imagine him In Vegas (actually, I did that, which is why I spent three days curled in the fetal position).

Right now, it's 90% I'm going. It's a race between how long it takes my school to send me the money they owe me, and the November 1st registration cutoff. They're pretty good about sending me money, so I'll most likely be there :)
