Clinton by a mile! Trump's gish gallop made Clinton win by default!

Gish Gallop, named after creationist Duane Gish, is the debating technique of drowning the opponent in such a torrent of half-truths, lies, and straw-man arguments that the opponent cannot possibly answer every falsehood in real time.

Comments from an Australian:

I thought we had one of the worst Prime Ministers ever to grace our country until last year, but Trump beats him hollow. How on EARTH can the US even consider such a know-nothing blow-hard as Trump as a viable candidate for ANYTHING in the government arena. He's beyond laughable, he's utterly pathetic. Further, it seems clear he is living in some sort of fantasy world of his own invention. He was gobsmackingly awful! Asking China to invade North Korea?! The US stealing Iraqi oil??!! Has he NO idea????!!

Granted, Clinton does have her faults and not a perfectly clear record. Nor is she as statesmanlike as Obama, who has been an excellent president. But Hillary does have the required strength, intelligence, skills, and depth of knowledge and experience in statecraft that Trump so VERY evidently lacks.

Laydown misère to Clinton.

CNN poll says: 62% think Clinton won, 27% think Trump won. With the caveat that their polling group is slightly more Democratic slanted than the American average.
People were saying that all Donald had to do was not drool on himself for him to win because of the low expectations. I knew this wasn't true and that Hillary would wipe the floor with him.

I'm not even watching. Pretty much Clinton would have to get caught with a live girl AND a dead boy at this point for me not to vote for her. Even then, I'd wait to see if the boy's death was ruled accidental. I'm no fan of Clinton but she's far preferable to electing Putin's dog.

Putin's dog's leg-raising post........

Clinton emerges from the debate with clear advantages over Trump on temperament, preparedness to be President, and whether she can be trusted with nuclear weapons:

-By a 17 point margin, 55/38, voters say Clinton has the temperament to be President. On the other hand, by an 11 point margin, 42/53, voters say Trump does not have the temperament to be President. Among independents the gap is even wider- by a 56/36 spread they say Clinton has the temperament for the job, while by a 41/54 spread they say Trump does not.

-By an 11 point margin, 52/41, voters say Clinton is prepared to be President. On the other hand, by a 10 point margin, 42/52, voters say Trump is not prepared to be President.

-By a 21 point margin, 56/35, voters say they think Clinton can be trusted with nuclear weapons. On the other hand, by a 9 point margin, 42/51, voters say they think Trump can not be trusted with nuclear weapons.

CNN has a group of 20 undecided voters from Florida. 18 think Hillary won.

The sad flaw in any sort of significance being attached to this is that this 20-person group cannot be representative of the general voting public here in the US. Because those 20 at least must have had sufficient stamina/interest/patience/focus to sit through a poll.

The general consensus among my sources seems to be that Trump failed hard and Clinton hit almost all the notes she had to.

I'm worried, however, that I might be experiencing an echo chamber effect. I'd like to see some broad polling.

ETA: Trump did succeed in name-checking a bunch of crucial states - Ohio, PA, Illinois, Michigan. Clinton could learn to slip in a few targeted messages.

Who do you think won?

First of all, what exactly do you mean by "won"? I ask this in all honesty. How do you win a debate? What's there to win?

It seems to me, every debate works the same way: Two people stand up and each one of them speaks. The other one refutes what the other said by saying "That's not true". End of the debate.

Now, if by "win" you mean "who seemed more confident", the answer is obviously Trump. But that's what you would expect from a bully who is actually convinced of the lies and outrageous things he says: Overconfidence.

If by "win" you mean "who said the least number of lies", I think it may be Clinton. At least, according to this Fact Check Analysis
... unfortunately, I'm sure most Trump supporters will never read this or any analysis that comes out, as they don't give a **** about facts. They just like to watch their leader babble stuff with lots of confidence. So then... Trump wins again.

Here's why internet polls are b.s.

The Conservative Tree House puts up a list of all the polls you can go vote in as to who won. And it's probably being passed around the right wing blogosphere... and every single poll says Trump Won. :eye-poppi

https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2016/09/26/polls-polls-polls-ok-who-won-the-debate/

Even Politico, who have a decided anti-GOP base shows Trump won something like 75/25??!! I'd guess the cons in the tree house particularly targeted that one.

Look at the body language after the debate. Bill and Hill working the crowd, Trump getting away from there as soon as he could. When you see the footage of them leaving the building Bill and Hill are chatting and smiling and the Trump crowd is rather dour looking.

But look to the conservatives to start touting the results of the post-debate polls. To a man/woman, not one Trump spokesliar has said he won. By tomorrow they'll all be explaining how he did, pretending that the wakes they've been holding on national television tonight didn't take place.

You missed the other caveat where they noted 27% of respondents might be fully retarded.

See my post above. The informal (unscientific) on line responses aren't to be trusted. I think only Fortune Magazine has it at 50/50. Every other poll has Trump winning - sometimes by a landslide. That's not surprising on Drudge or Breitbart, because their readers are slightly partisan. But if the efforts at the Conservative Tree House are any indication, it's Ron Paulism In Action.

You'll have to wait until some actual polling organizations weigh in. That'll be a couple of days, I guess.

There will be lots of polling. I'm curious what SNL and the late night hosts will do with the debates. I'm pretty sure they will do something on his sniffling. Some people were suggesting that Trump has to be doing that white powder. I don't know if that is true, but that is the kind of thing SNL usually would be all over.

Very unlikely. Trump doesnt drink or use drugs. It's the only thing I admire about him.

John Oliver will be on next Sunday.

I think Stephen Colbert is on live now.

Who won? The Seattle Mariners, in eleven innings. And me, because I watched the game instead of the debate.

GO Ms! Can they sneak in the back door? This is as close to any kind of pennant race I've seen from them in a decade.

I think you're right. But Trump seems like the archetypal 70s YUPPIE thinking only of women and blow. And while it might not be the M.O. of SNL today a lot of their writers and comics were notorious for doing a lot of coke. So I'm guessing that humor is right up their alley.
