Not necessarily. It is certainly possible to make an uninformed decision based on what they think is in their own best interest, even if its not.

Take for example Trump... claimed that Jones was "soft on crime" (hint: No, he wasn't). And the republicans in general want to get rid of social programs such as health care, ignoring the fact that many of them depend on those very same programs that Trump and company want to cut. So anyone who voted for Trump in the 2016 election or Moore in the 2017 election because of their economic or law enforcement policies was voting against their best interest.

I think you are assuming that someone cannot reasonably support destroying a welfare program they depend on. It is reasonable depending on what you actually value.

I saw a thing a while back where a reporter was interviewing Republicans. They were all very much in favour of repealing Obamacare. On the other hand, when the reporter suggested repealing the Affordable Care Act, many of the same people were very much opposed, as they relied on that themselves...
 
Moore is calling for a recount.

The vote was probably not close enough to automatically trigger one, but Moore could still get one if he pays for it. I don't know how much that costs. Watch for more donation solicitations.

One of the Senators from Colorado is calling for Jones to "do the right thing" by voting with the Senate Republicans.

“Tonight’s results are clear – the people of Alabama deemed Roy Moore unfit to serve in the U.S. Senate,” said Gardner in a statement. “I hope Senator-elect Doug Jones will do the right thing and truly represent Alabama by choosing to vote with the Senate Republican Majority.”

If Republican leaders think that what they are selling is in their constituents' best interests, why do they tell so many lies about what they are doing and what effect it would have? People will vote against their own best interests when they've been lied to, just as they will buy unsafe products when they are lied to.
 
I can't find anything solid for the cost of a recount - I guess it depends on exactly what they do. As I understand it there are a few options for the recount, depending on how 'manual' they want it to be.

A couple of articles I've read have mentioned figures anywhere from $500,000 upwards.

Choosing to not to spend resources to investigate an issue and using heuristics to make decisions is what that voter values doing. Choices involve risk and they are making the choice that is acceptable to them.

What an idiot. He should be asked if Menendez had been found guilty and resigned and Chris Christie appointed a Republican, should that Republican vote with the Democrats?

The sentence is not difficult to understand, if you realized a "y" was missing: "...when theY handed the presidency...".
