I remember when Oprah Winfrey went on Prof. Gates' ancestry program - it was a shock when they didn't find any white ancestry in her analysis (and this includes an examination of birth records and of census records, not just genetic analysis). But yeah, D'Souza (who previously wrote The American slave was treated like property, which is to say, pretty well") only managed to piss black Americans off, and of course Dolt 45's muppet reject son leapt right to it.

I'm sure there's plenty of cases like Oprah's, where its simply a matter of ancestors being enslaved by slavemasters who just didn't go in for that sort of thing. Which only means they weren't rapists in addition to being slaveowners.

But I swear, it seems like the Trumpkins have misrepresented any internal conflicts among blacks (i.e. light-skinned vs dark-skinned,"black-ish", and similar things) to be the mirror image equivalent of the 'one-drop rule' and figured they could exploit it. How more off base could you get?

From what I have seen of those ancestry shows, most African-Americans can only trace their ancestry back to whoever was alive at the end of the Civil War. The records from who preceded that mostly don't seem to exist anymore, perhaps such records just were not kept, or maybe they were destroyed.

So in the case of one like Oprah, the ancestor might be there, but there just might not be any record of it.

The latest episode of the Opening Arguments podcast does a deep dive into Harris' voting and prosecutorial records (as well as what her campaign promises were while she was making her bid for president) from her entire career. It's very revealing, and I'd definitely recommend it for anybody who is interested in understanding what kind of a person Biden has chosen as running mate.

The TL/DR version is that her record in the Senate is to the left of Bernie Sanders (although only by a teeny amount), and that many (although not all) of her decisions as prosecutor also speak to her being very progressive. The latter is also often misrepresented.
