The title says it all. I'm interested to hear people's views, particularly justifications for/against, including details of any scientific and empirical evidence against porn.

Who's first?

I'm against porn, but for reasons of false and misleading advertising.

Not a single one of the girls on the box cover were in the video!

The answer seems just too obvious. (i.e. what dtugg said.)

Is this a trick question?

Define porn.
Good question. I suppose my definition, on the hoof, is simply the publication of sexual images and material, essentially for commercial purposes. Clearly, the nature and explicity(?) of such images can vary widely, and lines of general and legal acceptability can be crossed, but I'm more interested in views on pornography (generally by my definition) in principle.

There is nothing wrong with porn, as long as its with consenting adults.
Interesting. You seem to be only concerned for the production of porn without regard for the consumption.

From my experience the consumption of porn between consenting adults always seems like a good idea at the time. While it can get things moving, if you make it through an entire porno flick sitting next to an actual human being that presumably wants to have sex with you, you should probably re-order your to-do list.

Mostly what's wrong with it is that it often looks so fake, and all those pop-up windows are annoying and can hang the computer, and ¦¦what?

Ah, by "consenting adults" you mean the consumption not the production. Sorry. So, I guess my previous response can be re-phrased the other way around then. Or do you really mean consenting adults period, at whatever point in the supply/consumption chain? Regardless, don't you think that's somewhat of a simplistic view, a little like saying: "There's nothing wrong with alcohol, provided its produced under an environmentally sensitive and sustainable regime and consumed responsibly and in moderation by adults of legal age who dispose of the bottles/cans at the local recycling station"? That's a lot of caveats.

Mostly what's wrong with it is that it often looks so fake, and all those pop-up windows are annoying and can hang the computer, and ¦¦what?
"Looks so fake"! You mean to say you thought porn stars did it for reasons other than simply the camera (and the pay cheque)? Or are you talking anatomically?!

What's wrong with porn is that all those sites are so slow. Nothing kills an erection like watching "Buffering... 2%" for 10 minutes for a 20 second clip :p

Where the model(s) consent, absolutely nothing. In situations where people are basically forced into it, then that's exploitation, akin to rape.

I think there's plenty of porn available on teh Intarwebs these days where the subjects are willing, consenting adults, that we really need not be all that concerned about accidentally bumping into the other kind.

What's really wrong with porn?

The characters lack depth, plot-lines are poorly developed and the writing is generally a bit on the weak side.

Agreed and may I add beautifully put.

I think that due to the proliferation not too many people object. The girls are far more in control these days and very well paid and we even have a healthy genuine amateur porn scene.

My eyesight is very bad these days and I don't why that might be.

I like porn!

I don't think there's anything wrong with seeing what happens between a woman and a man and a man and a horse. It's only natural after all.

This is a joke by the way don't start yelling about beastiality pr0n to me!

Porn is demeaning, since it reduces people to their lowest common instincts and desires, both in what it shows and in what it expects of the viewer. It is demeaning for the same reason watching someone wolf down five hamburgers in a row, or drink down a bottle of vodka and pass out, or is demeaning both to the viewer and the guy who does it.

This doesn't mean sex, food, or drink are bad in themselves. But porn is the abuse of sex.

This is not the same as

While I like sex as much as anyone else I don't care for porn because some of the girls are barely legal. An 18 year old looks like a kid to me. Some of the things they do are harmful and while I'm not going to go into it it looks to me like the girls have more of a bad time than a good time. Their smiles look fake to me.
