I can see that point, but it depends on what you realistically predict the outcome to be, because you get little from prolonging a battle if you cannot end up winning it.

And you don't get anything if you never fight at all. At some point prudence becomes paralysis and caution becomes cowardice. It's nothing new for me to argue that we're long past that point.

Democrats have a lot more power than they think they do, even at this late hour. But they HAVE to use it, or at least be seen to try, not sit around complacently waiting for a mandate that patently will never come.

Look, the thing is, amongst all the arrests there are sure to be some murderers and/or rapists. So best to take a whole demographic into custody without any rights to prevent the few among them that are criminals from being free.
As the US police is apparently unable to find a guilty person any other way.

*except* if the demographic is rich white males. There it needs to be seen on a case by case basis if the murder/rape victim wasn't clearly asking for it and whether prosecution won't destroy the career of a promising (young) man.

Did you know that as part of the ramp-up to Trump's ICE gestapo activities, members of Customs and Border Patrol (you know, the guys that actually deal with the border) were actually reassigned from jobs that involve, you know, the border, to jobs with ICE, a group who's activities in places like Wisconson and Chicago definitely do NOT involve the border.

In other words, under the Trump administration, border security is likely MORE lax now than it was under Biden. (i.e. they are letting people in so they can deport them later.)
