Video Game Rape Fest

Yes it's a jackpot for games like this except maybe for RE5. That was probably a negative since Capcom was basically accused of being racist. But a bit of ultraviolence/sex is no problem and good free publicity when "advocates" go after it in the media. Bulletstorm was pretty high profile anyway but this definitely helps for the casual gamers.

I've played through Sengoku Rance multiple times, and still haven't raped anyone. Unlike Bulletstorm, you actually rape people, and get character upgrades for doing so:

So is it like one of those silly online sex games where you pretend you're raping a girl? :p

Why does FOX just conveniently ignore the fact this is a parody game made for adult gamers? Why do the faceless generic geriatrics of America fail to understand video games are played by adults as well, and thus there are video games with *gasp* adult content?

For immediate release.

"The makers of Bulletstorm would like to express our thanks and undying graditude to Fox News for their tireless effort to increase our sales beyond our wildest dreams.

Thanks!"

Signed,

The makers of Bulletstorm.

Wasn't it Fox news that also came down on Mass Effect for the "lewd sex acts" that you could have with the characters?

It was blown out of proportion for that as well.

Yup, it was Fox News:

Looks like Fox hasn't learned. Their derision of Mass Effect only turned the ire of Gamers alike on them.

Yes thank you Fox, for guaranteeing that this game will be a best seller.

There are a few gaming sites that are circulating this story as well. Suffice to say they all just laugh it down. I'm the gaming industry considers these events as free publicity and thanks the gaming gods for the jackpot each time.

Nice to meet a fellow industry person!! ^_^

Yes these stories make me laugh as well. Free advertisement, in all honesty.

Even EA right now is getting hammered for their Dead Space 2 "Scared Mothers' advertisement. Only made me bug my friend for copy as soon as he was able to get it.

...oh and that they rated just like movies and the big "M" that is on the box means its for 17+ aged people

Why do parents buy games like this for their 8 year old son is beyond me.

Oh god, renai and eroge :D .

Enzai left me scarred for life.

But yeah, Bulletstorm? Not so much.

As for the language issue, it is common to use such hyperbolic language in a lot of situations online. Personally, I think it has to do with the need to top ourselves in being passionate and over the top in our arguments.

Because Fox is stuck in 1989 when the NES was huge and pretty much only played by little kids.

Indeed. The game rating system just seems to be ignored because video games are still thought of as children's playthings by the ignorant and uninformed mental dinosaurs of the world. I suppose it's always a good thing to see FOX make a fool out of itself. It's just a shame the fools they keep company with make legislative decisions.

A violent video game, where you can shoot off body parts and cut people in two in killing sprees, but the worst part is calling the moves "topless" and "gang bang"?!?!

Only in America.

Yep. Only in America. Sex bad, violence good, mmmmkay? </sarcasm>

Zardoz said:
The gun is good. The penis is evil. The penis shoots seeds, and makes new life to poison the Earth with a plague of men, as once it was, but the gun shoots death, and purifies the Earth of the filth of brutals. Go forth . . . and kill!

Both the right and the left are pretty ignorant of video/computer games. Joe Leiberman and Hillary Clinton both embarrassed themselves with ignorant statements about video and computer games in the past.

I fully expect this game to contribute to as many drunk driving incidents as the Red Alert series have contributed to nuclear attacks on Moscow.

Psst. Japan has a very high percentage of unreported rapes.

Probably true. I think it's very hard to know what the true rate of rape is for any country. Or whether it's trending up or down. Is an increase in reported rapes an increase in actual rapes, or just in the rate of reporting? Vice versa for a decrease.

But I don't think the existence of rape-themed video games makes people rape IRL who wouldn't otherwise be raping anyway. And, while they are playing video games in their homes, they can't be out raping people.

Both the right and the left are pretty ignorant of video/computer games.

And that's really the crux of the problem. A lot of folks, it seems, still think video games are just children's entertainment. While such folks can have little trouble grasping that certain television programs or movies are intended only for adult audiences, for some reason they cannot as yet grasp that video games can likewise be intended only for adults.

A related issue is thinking that all gamers are teenagers or youngsters. The reality is different. I can't recall with certainly the most recent figures, but as I recall the average age of a gamer is closer to the 30s (if not past that) rather than the teenage years.

One other point: some 'M' rated games have parental settings that allow gore and foul language to be disabled. So even though the game isn't intended for younger players, a parent determined to give the child an adult game can at least turn off some of the adult-themed content.

Indeed they did. Thank goodness their efforts didn't go beyond what they did.

I really have to wonder about the moral development of people who believe any given input can cause people to act immorally. Does that mean people who believe video games can cause people to commit crimes are themselves admitting that with the proper stimulus they themselves would launch into crime? Are they robots? Input a Bible, they behave good, but input Magical Hentai Sailor Girls IV and they launch into a frenzy of rape?

This is one of the points I have raised in the past when discussing gaming.
Games have no effect on people who are wired up properly.
If games could possibly have a negative effect, then it would have to be that games could have a positive effect in exactly the same way. Therefore, we should have seen a vast improvement in parking your car in an awkward space a few months after Tetris took off and a noticed reduction in animal abuse with the release of 'My Little Pony'.
