US vs everyone else tradewars

Sure, China has many problems and is far from utopia. And yet they have huge modern cities, super fast rail networks, high tourism rates, plenty of technology in many areas, good health care, global influence... They are not a peasant agrarian economy any more. Certainly not communist anyway. Although there are still some relics of communism to be found in government.
They never were communist in the first place. Mao was just one among many competing authoritarian warlords who knew nothing about running a country and who just got lucky enough to be last man standing.

The thing about China is that it's nearly all Potemkin.

The video in your link shows it.

Of course he not only can't describe it accurately, but he also doesn't understand what the test is for. Plus even if you could get him to understand what the actual test comprises of,
he still wouldn't understand why you would want to make cars safer for pedestrians.

Perhaps Elon could explain it to him? Oh, wait..

CyberTruck - Don't ask about pedestrian safety

Perhaps Elon could explain it to him? Oh, wait..

CyberTruck - Don't ask about pedestrian safety
According to Tesla's website, the Cybertruck Cyberbeast model clocks in at 6,843 pounds, and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds. For comparison, the 2023 Ford F-150 starts at slightly more than 4,000 pounds, and can go from 0-60 mph in about 5.5 seconds.

Brooks said the Cybertruck's extreme acceleration capabilities, combined with its weight, means that drivers will have less time to react to pedestrians, and collisions with them will be deadlier.
The Ford F-150 Lightning EV weighs 6,893 lb and does 0-60 mph in 'only' 3.8 seconds (same as the foundation series Cybertruck, which weighs 6,634 pounds). So I'm afraid Jim Farley couldn't explain it to him any better.

And of course truck drivers routinely floor it when there are pedestrians around.

But the question is at what weight does a vehicle become 'deadlier'? The average weight of an adult male in the US is ~200 pounds. The Toyota BZ4X weighs ~4,400 pounds, 20 times heavier and 95% of the inertia in a collision. For the average Cybertruck that increases to 97%. If weight was the only factor then any typical car or truck hitting a pedestrian is going to have the same effect.

Trying to explain any of this to Trump is a waste of time though, because he doesn't want to know the truth.

Trump tells Walmart to 'eat the tariffs' instead of raising prices
"Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain. Walmart made BILLIONS OF DOLLARS last year, far more than expected," Trump said in a social media post. "Between Walmart and China they should, as is said, 'EAT THE TARIFFS,' and not charge valued customers ANYTHING."
This isn't just being clueless, it's deliberately denying reality to suit his agenda. In 2024 Walmart's net profit margin was 2.9%. Last year they imported almost $50 billion worth of goods from China. Assuming a similar amount this year, at a 30% tariff rate they would have to 'absorb' more than $15 billion.

I'm sure Trump knows that Walmart's margins aren't high enough to absorb his tariffs. He just wants them to sell below cost to support his insane trade war. That's not going to happen. Prices will have to go up and the US consumer will be the (biggest) loser. But I don't want him to stop doing it. The more it hurts Americans the better.

Down here in New Zealand we are enjoying a trade surplus of NZ$1.4 billion, a big improvement over the $1 billion deficit we had last year. With China not being able to sell as much stuff in the US they will be looking at other markets to dump their goods. I'm looking forward to even cheaper stuff!
