Came out to look? A cougar tackles a deer right next to the house and the DNR believes the caller and yet doesn't send officers to insure human safety? No public schools shut down? Sounds like the DNR official either did not get a call or they are just another insulting pseudoskeptic.

Well, if a cougar just killed a deer, the cougar is still around.

Good time for DNR to try to locate the cougar. Maybe dart it and DNA test it.

But, the next day would have been a good day to follow up with your own investigation of what you saw.

Try to locate the deer carcass as well.

We were back in Columbia the next day, plus I'm not going out looking for a deer carcass unarmed with a cougar in the area. Perhaps DNR did investigate the area, but if so, they didn't inform my friend. If they did tell her they were coming out she didn't mention it

So you're not worried about anyone else stumbling upon a deer carcass with a cougar and the DNR isn't worried about it either.

A lot of people think I agree with them too, because I nod and smile when they first approach me with their nutty claims. I get a lot of "bird that was way bigger than it's supposed to be" and if what someone remembers from our conversation is me saying "well, they get pretty big" then it's easy for that person to think that an expert has corroborated the claim.
