US Officials Declare Eastern Cougar Extinct

Maine Coon Cat has a long tail and so it is non sequitur for a conversation about bobcats. Please pay attention.

Unless the cat's tail is held high it would be easy to miss being black in color, please use common sense.

He said it had no tail. But I like your idea about witnesses being wrong. We constantly see Eastern cougar witnesses being wrong because they present photos of housecats.

The further you get from the object the less likely you are to judge it's size, now add looking at it through a camera lens, and you have no scale unless you have a known landmark in the photo for comparison.

Even more reasons to understand that it is highly likely that the witnesses who are not telling tales are simply mistaken...

Yes, but you need to find out those details before you summarily decide that the witness is mistaken.

So when someone else says the saw something without a tail, it still could have had a tail.

But when you say you saw something, there is no mistaking it, no matter what anyone says.

I think we're getting down to the psychology here.

Was there any follow up to the Edisto sighting of the cougar?

Did you, or anyone, go out to look at the tracks or marks / signs of a struggle? Take pics?

Did anyone go out and stand in the spot and have a picture taken for size comparison?

Pics of cougar tracks following deer tracks with a subsequent spot where they fought, would go a long way to support the sighting.

Since no follow up has been mentioned, I'm guessing it didn't occur?

Animals do sometimes lose their tails (or parts of them). I'd still say a large domestic cat, a manx, one of the bobtail breeds, or one that lost all or most of its tail in some accident are the most likely explanation.

lol.

Rhetorical question, but gamer N L would respond here that provoking the beast in this way would likely result in death, so it is always best to act like nothing happened and then later make a harrowing story out of it.

No, none of us did because we weren't certain if it was still around and we didn't have any weapons in the house. My friend didn't call DNR until the next day, if anyone came out to look she didn't mention it.

Or I could claim to kill 3 cougars all hell bent on killing me, and then post a pic of a cougar skin with a hole in it to make it look authentic. That's a different version of the game.

Jodie...Here's an excellent way to prove that you didn't make this whole thing up:
Contact the DNR office that your friend called and ask for a copy of the report. Scan it - then post it here.
We'll wait. :)

Nah...way way off LOL!
The difference is one poster gains credibility with ever post...the other loses it ;)

But again you've managed to make another thread all about you.
Which is your only goal?

The difference is . . .

"Three bears charged me."
"Oh really?"
[Posts video of multi-bear charge and photo of self with bear hide.]

"I watched a cougar wrestle with a deer in a backyard in coastal South Carolina, and then just kind of mentioned it in passing."
"Oh really?"
[Posts photo of cougar from western North America; asks 'Why do you hate me?!']

Please provide me with a link to my post(s) indicating I've ever said anything remotely close to what you are indicating here.
