US church votes to ban interracial couple

A Jew is a Jew regardless of where he is born.

Do you believe that being Jewish confers physical characteristics on a person?

The entire Neanderthal race, come to think of it. Consider that "neander" means "new man". I think you're on(to) something, TM.

But of course Neanderthal comes from where the first specimen was found, the Neander Valley in Germany.

ETA: I see I was late to the party.

The new vote apparently passed "unanimously" with 30 persons voting..
All but 6 had their minds changed by the media blitz, obviously, as 15 of these had abstained from the initial vote out of fear, and the 9 that forced the issue to ban changed their minds too!

Depends on the church but Baptists are quite the opposite of centralized. The wikipedia article on Baptists cover this. So does Emo Phillips

More to the point: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_Will_Baptist

The subdivision called Free Will Baptists have many subdivisions themselves. There are even a couple of groups that are primarily African-American.

Baptists are fundamentally anarchic.
I wouldn't put it that way. In fact, they love hierarchies so much, they have lots of them.

Blacks and whites mixing will always be a grey area.
You rang?

How can they have a re-vote on something that was allegedly illegal?

Yes, about twice a month someone from the US likes to state this as if they're the only country in the world to enjoy such rights....
Well, you let me know when that happens.

A baptist convention isn't a hierarchy. It's a fellowship, and the difference is not academic. A convention cannot instruct a congregation on how to run its affairs. The option of parting ways is always on the table, and used when necessary.

It's not actually a re-vote. It's a vote on a new resolution to *ahem* clarify their position

Regardless, there are religious associations in the US that are openly racist, e.g. Creativity, Nation of Islam, Black Hebrew Israelites.
