US church votes to ban interracial couple

The pastor tells the woman's parents, I don't want them here because I don't want my 3 year old granddaughter to grow up thinking it's ok to marry a black man.

The church held a vote banning all interracial couples and the vote carried.

Religious freedom trumps discrimination, I guess.

Given the fact that the vote carried the motion, I'm sure that the pastor is confident that his grandchild will learn to be a racist just by living in the community; there's no need for the child to have to be in the same room as the mud people.

Apparently in Terre Haute, IN. There is no mention of the church's name or denomination. The pastor who made the remark is no longer with the church; the new pastor dislikes the decision, but independent churches can and do overrule their pastors. Apparently there were 43 people eligible to vote; all but 15 declined to vote, but 9 of the 15 voted for banning, so that was the decision. She says they're going to vote again this next week, but the girl wasn't considering the church in the first place, and certainly won't now, regardless of the outcome. She's particularly disgusted by all the people who declined to vote.

Indeed. As Hank Hill said, "I think body piercings are a good thing. That way, you can tell if something's not right with a person." Well, now we know that something's not right with the people who voted for this ban. They should indeed be free to enact this ban, so that everyone will always know that they're awful people. We should not try to hide that fact by forcibly removing the ban.

How are they being extreme?

I've read just one account and it is not clear to me that their decision was at all motivated by their religious belief, but assuming that it was: What should we expect? That the delusions of these people make some sort of sense or are socially acceptable? Or that these people vote/behave in a way they think is not condoned by their imaginary sky-friend? Who's to say that this is not *exactly* what their god would want, then?
