There where I used to stand
Spotted on my commuter train this evening:

Words cannot describe how offended I am by that, but I did try to convey my feelings in the following message I just sent off to BART. (For those who don't know, BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) is the leading and for many, the only viable mass transit system available in my area.)

As a long time BART customer (25+ years and possibly not much longer) I've seen a lot of disturbing things in your stations and trains. Things such as robberies, assaults, women being accosted, people openly defecating and urinating and other disgusting acts. Today, however, I saw something so disgusting that for the first time I have to re-evaluate BART service and consider other options for my commute.

Today upon boarding my train home I was absolutely appalled to be greeted by an advert from "rethink911.org", a website run by on-line con artist Richard Gage, a failed architect who found a lucrative niche by bilking the feeble-minded through spreading blatant disinformation regarding the september 11th 2001 attack on the US.

To whoever accepts or approved of these adverts, I strongly suggest they visit http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=64 and search tags "Richard Gage" and or "ae911truth" to understand just exactly what kind of scumbag you've aligned yourselves with.

It should go without saying that I formally demand these adverts be removed from the BART system immediately and if they're not, I'll personally encourage my fellow commuters to seek other alternatives to BART as well. We cannot patronize any organization that would do business with the likes of Richard Gage.

Thanks for reading.

If anyone would like chime in, go here:

I'm out.

I really wouldn't worry to much, the more people that find out about the truth movement the better. Most people can see what a load of rubbish they promote. If people are willing to give their cash away to Gage, bigger the fool them ;)

Whilst I understand the offensiveness of these liars advertising in this way I think Spanx is on target.

No reasonable, rational, honest person will be fooled by these CT's. They will simply reinforce the common understanding that they are at best deluded fools and, at somewhat worse, deliberate liars.

For that significant part of the community demography that is unaware of 9/11 conspiracy the overwhelming majority response will be "What are these nut jobs on about??"" OR similar

You said yourself that you are willing to put up with **** on their trains. This is no different.

Somehow I cannot see these signs being very effective. Most people who care about this subject already know conspiracy theorists are full of crap. This kind of thing won't change anything.

So no equivalent of the Advertising Standards Authority you can complain to?

Whenever i see 9/11, chemtrail, or any other conspiracy ad posters in my city, I tear them down, and if I can't, then I add my own messages on them with a sharpie.

That's early. Didn't they say this was supposed to start in September? They don't even have the website this ad refers to ready.

whoever accepts or approved of these adverts

The advertisement in the BART network is organised by Titan360 (contact person is one Terry Powers). BART is only responsible for the advertising content guidelines.

I don't really think anyone there cares where the money comes from as long as no obvious wrongdoing can be proven, and that would be difficult.

Why do they assume that people don't know a third tower fell?

I think it's a bit like the "Have you heard of Jesus?" crowd. It's inconceivable to them that you may have heard about Jesus/WTC 7, and not already be a Christian/Truther, as they believe the simple existence of these things is, in and of itself, sufficient to prove the truth of Christianity/Trutherism.

Therefore, you simply must have never heard of him/it before.

Why do they assume that people don't know a third tower fell?

As I enjoy pointing out to Truthers it was actually 10 buildings that were destroyed in NYC that day, not 3 - even though only 2 were hit by airplanes.

Almost none of them know that.

Someone pays for ad space and sticks an ad up.
Why should the owner of the space have to verify the accuracy of the ad.

That's pretty much it.
As long as the ad does not promote an illegal activity, contain profanity, or is hate speech, it is not up to BART to censor simple idiocy.
'Scientific American' magazine contains ads for pseudo-scientific woo, so does 'Discover'.

Revenue is revenue.

Exactly. These posters and billboards will do nothing but create an epidemic of eye rolling and head shaking. The Building What? campaign was a flop and this one will be a flop too.

7 of them with a 'WTC' prefix to their designation!!11!

OT: Most don't realize that using "WTC" as the prefix is actually wrong. The right way is to have the number first, "7 WTC", because that was/is the building's address.

The MTA took down the Opie and Anthony Show's "WOW sticker" bus ads a few years ago but would probably run this crapola without a second thought. Boobies... way too offensive. Desecrating the graves of thousands... not a problem. Ick.
