UK - December 2019 General Election

All new British homes are going to be carbon neutral and all homes will have 1000/1000mbit fiber broadband, even out in the country. This actually happening.

Which will easily be achieved because there will be no Poles in the UK to build any new houses. Check box checked!

So now the issue of anti Semitism within the Labor party has become a major campaign issue?
Another sign of how bad a leader Corbyn has been. He should have nipped this in the bud.
Amused the way some of the hard line Labor supporters here tried to hand wave away the issue. I found the "well. most Jews don't vote labor anyway" comment to be really prime, and perfect example of why this has become an issue.

I know Corbyn isn't poor but he doesn't have the kind of money needed to buy the Daily Mail and Daily Express and change their editorial policy.

Some Tories are now being investigated by the Met Police for offering inducements to Brexit Party candidates to stand down... can we get any election without illegal interference???

Where was that said, and by which "hard line labor [sic] supporters"?

I would have been PM but I haven't taken nearly enough drugs, printed enough lies, publicly insulted enough races or cultures, ordered enough journalists beaten up, rugby-tackled enough 10-year-olds, lied to enough monarchs, undermined enough constitutions to qualify

So..... You don't deny buying 2 water cannon tanks to suppress the people of London, eh?

The US businesswoman*Jennifer Arcurihas accused Boris Johnson of brutally casting her aside “like some one-night stand” and leaving her “heartbroken” since he became prime minister and the controversy over their four-year relationship became public.

In an outspoken interview with*ITV’sExposure, to be broadcast on Sunday, the tech entrepreneur also tells the journalist John Ware that*Boris Johnson*has refused to take her phone calls at Downing Street and has cut her off before she could initiate a conversation.

Addressing her words directly to the prime minister, who actively championed her business interests during his time at City Hall while failing to declare their friendship, Arcuri says: “I’ve been nothing but loyal, faithful, supportive, and a true confidante of yours.

“I’ve kept your secrets, and I’ve been your friend. And I don’t understand why you’ve blocked me and ignored me as if I was some fleeting one-night stand or some girl that you picked up at a bar because I wasn’t - and you know that. And I’m terribly heartbroken by the way that you have cast me aside like I am some gremlin ... He should know me well enough to know who I am ... Shame on him for not answering the phone.”

At least he didn't impregnate this one. Then again how could he, since he was only with her to discuss technology.

You also have have to be like a big, cuddly Teddy bear. That's the main thing.

Is the prime minister velly solly about what has happened to his fellow platinum blond(e), who famously gave him technology lessons and accompanied him on various trade missions like they were a pair of beta version Targaryens? Of course not! Not remotely. **** business. Or as Johnson was tweeting at the very moment Arcuri was describing being hung out to dry by him: “We can only invest in our great public services if we support the entrepreneurs, businesses and hardworking people who get up each day to build our strong economy.” I know, right? Unless he hardworkingly shags entrepreneurs and businesswomen, you literally can’t have an NHS. That’s just economics.

All he has to do is send her some hush money every once in a while, otherwise you never know whose embarrassing sexual inclinations might leaked to the press...

The plan for a “British broadband” entity is novel, though there is a compelling precedent in South Korea, where a state-owned company has achieved 99% full-fibre coverage, compared with 7% in the UK. Investment in fibre-optic broadband is the 21st-century equivalent of paving the roads, building the motorways or creating the rail network. It will be the foundations on which the new green economy will be built. In the 1990s, the internet and its attendant infrastructure was commonly referred to as the “information superhighway”. It shows real ambition for the UK going into the 2020s and all the opportunities of the fourth industrial revolution.

Reality check: Where i live in Sweden, the local-municipality owned power company has built a fiber internet network that has allowed roughly 90% of all residences and private companies with a fiber connection. As with how the telephony system now works, they just build and maintain the physical connections and it's private ISP's that pay to use this network to provide customers with an internet connection (and other services like VPN).

More importantly: it's certainly not free. Although it's subsidized by the municipality and the state, having them actually install the fiber connection has a decent one-time cost. Hence why, when they are expanding the network in one region it's usually the case that they try to convince many apartment building, home owners and business to all get fiber at the same time at a lower individual cost.

With the cables in place, the municipality makes a decent amount of money with minimal maintenance by allowing ISP's to charge their customers, although competition between the various ISP's mean that prices remain low.

No comments on the debate?

From what I have read, a lot of people in the UK are going to go "These two are the best we can come up with?".

The liars in the Conservative Party try to mislead the electorate by rebranding the Conservative Party twitter feed "factcheckUK"

Apparently it's no big deal

When asked if the decision to rebrand Conservative press office Twitter account as "factcheckUK" was a mistake - and whether it was likely to be repeated - Mr Raab says: "I think it's the cut and thrust of the debate, and frankly when you're in the Conservatives' position, everyone likes to have a go at the Tories, we should be rebutting the nonsense that's put out about us."

Meanwhile Twitter are behaving like a 40-year old middle class first time parent, threatening consequences if they do it again.

I'm surprised noone at Labour election HQ has yet to come up with something better for Corbyn to say, whenever he's pressed on whether he'll support remain or leave in the referendum on a new deal should they win.

Letting the people decide is all fine and good, but at some point I'd imagine the sceptical segments of the electorate might like to know whether he'll commit to one or the other...

I think the problem is Jeremy Corbyn, not the messaging from central office. You can an Old Trot to a narrative but you cannot make him buy into it.

Narrow win for Corbyn, IMHO. The Conservative Party's rebranding its Twitter account was disgusting. For a party that's ahead in the polls, they come across as increasingly desperate.

They do it because it works and because they know they can get away with it.

All the hand-wringing after the fact makes no difference, the damage is done.
