tummy on purree

Whoa! This ain't good!

Any JREFers in the area can lend a hand?

Oo, sorry to hear that Kitty - I thought it was just a passing bug when I was being glib earlier :(

Kitten2 DOWN!!!!

I'm not even on solid foods yet! And our last hope is DOWN!

But I can now totter around, so I am giving everyone Gatoraide and ice!

We'll survive, but this new diet plan just isn't going to take off!

Dingo is fine though.

oh and I would not have ANYONE come to the house. I"m thinking of painting a huge cross on the door - just as a warning.

But is he SAFE?! The last thing you need is a dog with gastro too...that's TOO ugly to contemplate...

Speaking of losing weight, after my awful illness while in the USA last month, on return I discovered I had lost 7kg (about 16lbs) and two belt notches. I must be one of the few people to visit the USA, the land of the "sugar, cream and salt" diet, and not gain weight.

Incidentally, has anyone done a quick recall of what you guys ate a few days ago?

"It's going around" we have been told by the medical authorities. My medical history was the only reason I needed the ER visit. Think of me as you 98 year old aunt with diabetes. Well, that's how I'm supposed to view my immune system...

Anyway, I have been elected to go on the Gatoraide run. After a nap. I kept down a small slice of dry toast, so have been deemed "cured". Right...

The toast is fighting back though. Still, eventually the dog will eat the cats, or the cats will go after the dog.

Oh and THERE IS NO GOD.

Because after this long with only a slice of dry toast...
my jeans are STILL tight!

Nap time after I deal with Kitten2.

I suppose this means you won't be eating the escargos, the chili, and the flan I made you?

(I'm so bad. Tummy aches are the worst! A severed leg I can deal with. Or a cardiac arrest. But an upset stomach....)

When I had food poisoning a few years back, and wasn't allowed to eat until the symptoms had ceased (several days), the small piece of dry toast I was eventually allowed seemed the most delicious thing I'd ever eaten...

lol Mojo.

Although not caused by illness, I had a similar experience when deployed overseas. For several months, all we had to eat were MREs (the militaries 10-year=shelf=life rations, that taste like tomato covered wet cardboard...or just wet cardboard). When they finally got a limited mess hall up, they made some T-ration hamburgers (T-rations are big metal containers of prepackaged food, that hold like 20 servings each). Think school lunch burgers: soy burgers full of preservatives, stored in a tin can, boiled to heat up, and slapped on a bun.

Best hamburger I ever had in my life.

oh boy, not fun....

They decided NOT to do a CAT scan (after thinking about it for a few hours).

They did put me on all the antibiotics for a diverticulitis blowout just in case (my Xray was ok). I kept trying to tell them I was more than happy to stay for a CAT scan. They kept trying to tell me to go home and take all my antibiotics and don't eat any solid food for a few days. And see my regular physician. My regular physician happens to be out of town. oh joy.

I had a wee medical condition a few years ago where they did all sorts of rotten things to my body, went "yeah! She's still alive!" at the end. They also happened to mention that I also ended up with an impaired immune systen and scarring on my whole digestive track. Oppsy! But hey, I'm alive.

(Fowlsound, I've heard since they are much more careful to think about things like this when treating these days, so don't worry!).

I really wish I had a CAT scan. What are we CANADA???? This is the US, order all the darn tests!

So it isn't the food poisoning that is the worry right now, it's the did my gut take it or not?

I love modern medicine.

And now why we don't think it's food poisoning....

POOL BOY DOWN!!! POOL BOY DOWN!!!!

Right now Kitten2 is running things! We are so all gonna die.

(Pool Boy had been on a business trip, so it's a tummy bug.)

Oh Kitty. So sorry to hear about all of this. I wish I lived closer so I could help you out. I've suffered all my life with digestive tract problems and they're not only very painful but also embarassing. I can understand what you're going through. So very glad you went to the hospital! Food poisoning and it's after effects are nothing to fool around with. I hope things get better soon - both for you, Pool Boy and Kitten2.

Ooohhh.

Sounds like the experience I had with a virus somwhere in the 1995 timeframe.

Passed out from dehydration on the bathroom floor, had to go to the hospital. They put two litres of electrolytes into me and things started to work much better. (The first litre disappeared without a trace, the second started to recycle in the normal fashion, thankfully.)

Ooohhh. My sympathies.

Well, here's hoping the Kitty clan stops hairballing and starts purring again soon. Again, very glad you went to the hospital!

jj has a good point Kittynh. Make sure you drink plenty and keep up the electrolytes. A little salt, sugar and bicarbonate in a litre of clean water would save half the kids who die of dehydration in the world. Imagine being the way you've been this week but with access to no hospital and with the nearest water a dirty well two miles away.

I suppose this means you won't be eating the escargos, the chili, and the flan I made you?

Reminds me of an old "Dennis The Menace" cartoon: Mother is in bed looking really, really sick and Dennis is entering the room: "This'll make you feel better mom- I fixed you some lunch. Peanut butter sandwich, jellybeans and a soda pop."
Just keep hydrated. This WILL pass....

I'm doing better. I"m very dizzy, well more so than usual.

However, Kitten called and at the end of our phone conversation actually said, "thanks mom, that's really good advice! You sure know a lot."

That or I'm hallucinating.

Kitten2 and Pool Boy are both sound asleep in my bedroom. Kitten2 is all curled up in her sleeping bag on the floor (she likes her sleeping bag when she is ill, as she can be near mommy and daddy). Pool Boy is passed out and has been since 6pm. (I should check his breathing).

For me, it's such a quiet relaxing evening. I get the tv remote all to myself! I got to watch the wacky UFO shows! I'm sick enough not to feel guilty at just watching bad tv and knitting. Now for more Gatoraide and to call it a night....

Oh I had mashed potatoes for dinner! No butter or anything, but I"m moving on up.

Very happy to hear the good news Kitty. Very sorry that the rest of the household is not so well but you recovered quickly enough that they should be on the mend tomorrow.

You were the first in the house to come down with this. Bring it home from school? Those little germ factories can be so adorable most of the time.

Teachers are supposed to build up some sort of germ resistance over time. However, since I've gone to part time and supplemented with subbing (at just one small school!) I could almost work full time if I wanted. There is always some NEW bug going down the pike!

Another thing is with adoption we get children with all sorts of interesting little medical problems. Hepetitis carriers aren't uncommon in preschool! Some parents give the teachers a hard time as we have "procedures" we have to use for things like blood, and well, throwing up! We HAVE to wear gloves. We can't just "mop up" the other stuff! We also can't treat one child differently than others, and hey, better safe than sorry. And we can't say, "well, you know 3 of the children are hep carriers." We have to live in a world with this stuff (even Vermont) and it really isn't that hard to deal with. Though people, teach your kids not to bite, ok?

I should add the hep carriers and other children with medical issues, NEVER bite. These kids have parents that have really got them on top of their own care, and safety. Even at age 3!

But for goodness sake, sometimes they get bitten! It's a safety issue. Rant over.

Mashed potato is a good step up! Fibre, basic carbs & sugars, salt, some basic minerals, etc. Easy on the somach too, and gives your tract "something to work on" that isn't going to send it chaotic.

But rest and sleep are the best cures. Do much of both! Sorry you have to be sick on your birthday though...how about you just postpone it a week or so?
