There's a noteworthy portion of chuds who unironically complain about "Star Wars getting political."
The upside of the scenario was that Trump would never have gotten anywhere near power in that world as he would never have signed up to get citizenship
Trump also said that he was pulled from the rubble. And by now he probably believes that.

The explanation I saw that made a lot of sense:
Trump knows that this is the kind of thing that people care about, but deep down, he absolutely does not care about anyone who died or suffered on 9/11. So in order to talk about it in a way that he cares about, he has to insert himself into the narrative.
