Those who that bit really resonates with likely have a guilty conscience. This might be more damning is it weren't for how 1) guilt is one of the major tools used by cults to control people and 2) that the Republican Party functions extremely similar to how cults function.

It's likely also worth a reminder that the Republican Party has known all along how murderous and criminal Trump and many of their politicians are. That's just one example of an easy origin for deeply rooted and widespread guilt.
