Trump's Second Term

Stephen Miller
@StephenM

If you believe a foreign government can sail a hospital ship to the edge of US territorial waters, deliver a hundred babies to foreign moms, then promptly sail back to a foreign port, and that every one of those babies is American for life, you don’t believe in nationhood at all.
I really really don't want Stephen Miller to tell me about his nightmares.

So, the US is 250 years old today. Would've been a momentous celebration of a quarter century of continuous democracy if you-know-who had not toppled it.

That is the chance you take in puttin gon any big event in DC in the Summertime: A heatwave can be deadly, given the high summer humidity of DC I have been in DC when it gets into the high 90's, it really, really, sucks.

So it wasn't really a good idea to pick DC for the main celebrations. Surely there are other locations in the US (historically important ones, perhaps) where the climate would have been more suitable? I mean, it's a big country, and it's all celebrating its 250th birthday, not just DC.

Are there any major events happening elsewhere? Or even minor ones? I think someone mentioned that in the UK there are street parties and other local events for such occasions, and asked if the same was true in the US, but I don't recall seeing a reply.

How would anybody notice? More likely it's to end the embarrassgly low attendance, like covering up the taking down his name at the Kennedy Center.

Apparently there's been a lot of medical emergancies there due to the heat with a number of people transfered to hospital and seven people currently on life support. Looks like even his fair may end up with a body count. (Probably been ninja'd)

The only other possible candidate was Mar-a-Lago, and it's hurricane season down there.

If you find anyone doing that, tell the IRS and they'll chase those Americans for their taxes.

Communists!

Trump: You can be a communist or you can be a patriot. You cannot be both. As for those who peddle Marxist lies about our heritage, tell our children that we live on stolen land or that our heroes were oppressors. They're doing something much worse than slandering our past. They are slandering and attacking our future. We're not going to let that happen.

Trump vows to vanquish communism and to send communists into exile.

Trump: The Communist Party is made up of illegal immigrants, criminals, and everybody that doesn't want to work. Communism is a loser. It always was, and it is right now. It's a big loser. Look at the people that are promoting it.

Not sure if this is best placed here, but the supreme court appears to have legalised torture and extrajudicial execution.
On June 23, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled [PDF] in favor of Cisco Systems, a major U.S. multinational technology corporation, in a civil suit brought by victimized members of the Falun Gong spiritual movement. These members alleged in 2011 that Cisco aided and abetted the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) by developing customized software dubbed “Golden Shield” at its California offices and selling it to Chinese authorities, who used it to identify, arrest, torture, and otherwise commit international crimes against thousands of Falun Gong practitioners. The Court could have remanded the case to the lower courts to examine the proffered evidence of Cisco aiding and abetting the actual commission of such crimes. Instead, the Court’s majority chose to eliminate any such inquiry by denying the possibility under law of corporate liability, even if the evidence were to prove the nefarious character of Cisco’s involvement.
Importantly, the majority further denied any corporate (or individual) aiding and abetting liability for torture or extrajudicial killings under the Torture Victim Protection Act of 1991, which the plaintiffs in Cisco had also sought to enforce.
This probably only applies to acts outside of US territory, but it would leave US companies involved in Gaza free to execute and torture with no apparent legal route for compensation. Immunity from local law has been sought, and the refusal of the US to recognise international courts is now well established.
