I'm from Philadelphia.. I'm feeling this vibe.

I was a child when the bicentennial came around. The city had been making plans for years on some levels - fighting blighted housing, making regulations about not allowing faux historical housing and such. As the event got closer they planned parades, multiple fireworks displays and plenty of other events. It should have been a great time.

But our mayor was Frank Rizzo.

Rizzo wasn't a narcissist like Trump, but he had the same kind of followers and a "law and order" cop mentality. While people in the city talked about events and plans, Rizzo kept interfering with 'security concerns' as he was convinced that leftist hippie radicals would disrupt everything. The city was to hold the World's Fair, but his interference meant that we only got a small parade and ceremony. At least the multiple fireworks displays happened.

Rizzo also demanded 15,000 National Guardsman to 'combat' those claimed leftist radicals. Rizzo was convinced the remainder of the Manson family was going to spike Philly's water supply with LSD among many other things. As a result of this rhetoric, tourists stayed away and celebrated in other cities.

Its stung, 11 years later when it was the 200th anniversary of the US Constitution the city had a much better celebration, with multiple nights of fireworks displays, several parades, and a real celebration.

You have to admit his handlers this time around are very cunning, they know they can always distract him with buildings, statues and other vanities, they let him do whatever he wants in regards to his decorating as it keeps him happy.
