I think the more important thing Burgum is ignoring/doesn't understand is not the existence battery technology, but the fact that even if solar panels don't generate electricity at night, its fine because electrical demand is also at a low point at that time of day.

That is one unique advantage to solar.... its energy production tends to track demand (highest production in the day when we need the most, 0 production at night when nobody is using electricity.)

Compare that to (for example) coal or nuclear, where they are typically good generate a "base load", but you cannot throttle them back when demand is lower. Thus at night you have all these power plans that generate electricity that nobody needs.

He walked in to this. North Dakota invested in renewables under Burgum and it lowered energy costs.
But now that he works for Donald he says the opposite is true

Burgum: Can you explain why the states that pursued the policies you’re describing have the highest power prices in the country?

Magaziner: Does North Dakota have one of the highest power prices in the country? You have one of the highest percentage of renewables.
