Trump's Second Term

Trump: "I have to be careful because if I do trip or fall, it's gonna be the biggest story. That's why when I get out of those planes, I walk nice and slowly. I'm not looking to set any speed records."
That too, but when they use the small steps because he can't get up the big steps, that is the end.

I think this post somehow belongs here better than UK politics - I was watching this crucial parliamentary hearing this afternoon:

The current PM:s position is basically at stake and what we have here vs what we would have in the Congress? Basically several quite intelligent people are forensically fencing in a calm and analytic atmosphere. Whereas in the Congress there would be a total circus, soundbites, appealing to the lowest common denominator, panem et circenses. This is not to say that most UK MP:s and politicians wouldn't be cynical and shallow, of course they are, but what is demanded from them is at least the basic standards of logic and intelligence. Which get heightened in an important select committee. In these times it is increasingly hard to deny that the US political system has failed and failed utterly. Trump and his grotesque administration is just the concequence of this total collapse of the American model.

ELIZABETH WARREN: Did Donald Trump lose the 2020 election?

KEVIN WARSH: Uhm, we try to keep politics if I'm confirmed out of the Federal Reserve

WARREN: I'm just asking a factual question

WARSH: I believe this body certified the election

WARREN: That's not the question I'm asking

Leavitt: The idea that President Trump would not be a final decision maker is a fallacy. The idea that President Trump would not strike a deal that's in the best interest of the American people, the American taxpayer, and our great military himself is laughable. He's the negotiator grifting conman in chief.

Edited for accuracy.

Flu killed more American soldiers in WW1 than German bullets did

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth
@SecWar
The War Department is once again restoring freedom to our Joint Force.

We are discarding the mandatory flu vaccine requirement, effective immediately

Perhaps people would make less of an issue of Trump tripping/falling if he didn't spend so much of the 2020 and 2024 election campaigns attacking Biden over his age.

"Look at how old the Democratic candidate is! Please ignore all of the age-related issues of the Republican Candidate."

He's trying to get his defence in before the trials start...

Kernen on CNBC asks Trump if he'd drop the investigation of Powell in order to get Kevin Warsh seated on the Fed. Trump responds by ranting and raving about the Fed building renovation project and suggests Powell is taking a cut of proceeds.
Speaking of Warsh and the upcoming replacement of the fed chairman...

How worried are people?

We know that Trump having control of the fed would be a disaster (as he would probably set interest rates too low in order "boost" the economy). Warsh has claimed he "Won't be Trump's sock puppet", but we have all seen how various nominees can lie. (Witness "Roe v Wade is settled law" by various republican supreme court nominees.) Plus, he has claimed that "Trump never demanded rate cuts", when there is a long history of Trump doing just that with Powell.

So, will Repubican senators accept him as the nominee, or will they think there is a risk? (Republicans are generally spineless, but they must recognize a depression would be bad for the stock market.) And if Warsh does get confirmed, will the fed actually be independent or will he be Trump's proxy?
