Trump's Second Term

Trigger happy trained killers aren't ideal peacekeepers, remember when the Parachute regiment were sent in to police a peaceful demonstration in Derry one Sunday in 1972? Shooting people in the back as they ran away.
I remember talking about specific training with an old school friend who had a long and interesting career in the Marines, UK version. He was always very clear that if you wanted people to land on a bit of shoreline in darkness, secure a few buildings and prevent the alert being raised, he and his mates were the men for the job. Crowd control and peacekeeping? There were many other people properly trained to do that.

Those 457 British personnel who died in Afghanistan would be rolling in the aisles.

I would like to see him tell that joke to one of the Royal Marines that served in Helmand

HEGSETH: We wore a patch on our shoulder that said ISAF -- International Security Assistance Force. And you know what the joke was? That is stood for 'I saw Americans fighting.'

COONS: Let's just make clear for the record that our military partners in Afghanistan included many who served and died

Still not sure if alienating allies is a good move for the US, isolationist policies or not.

The homicide rate in Arkansas is double that of California.
The violent crime rate was higher too, not double but higher. In 2023 USA Facts reported Arkansas had 620 violent crimes per 100,000 people. California recorded 508 violent crimes per 100,000 people.

As I've written before, as a former Boss of mine once explained to me: "We believe what we need to believe when we need to believe it. If the situation changes? We believe something else."

It's not. I think that you're invoking a questionable premise, though. The Party currently in charge has making moves that are bad for the US as their standard MO, now. Their actions are driven by very different concerns than the actual good of the US.

Marines: We're here! Where are the protests at?

Angelenos: Okay, so you take the 210 to the
134, head south on the 5, then transition to the
110, take the right exit off 6th street, pass the
In-n-Out...

  • Marines: Excuse me, sir? Sir, where is the riot?
  • Customer at In-N-Out: Where is the what?
  • Marines: The riot. We were told it was by this In-N-Out.
  • Customer: The riot? I don't know what you mean. What is it, a store?
  • Marines: No it's...people rioting.
  • Customer: I don't...let me ask my son. He's inside getting our order.

Ingraham: Why is there an expiration date -- doesn't it give them leverage over us?

Lutnick: They started slow rolling these magnets—a teeny product that goes in every motor, like part of the starter. We stopped delivering them ethane. It makes plastic. Good luck running an economy without plastic. Rubio said I'm not taking your students anymore, they can go home..
