I remember talking about specific training with an old school friend who had a long and interesting career in the Marines, UK version. He was always very clear that if you wanted people to land on a bit of shoreline in darkness, secure a few buildings and prevent the alert being raised, he and his mates were the men for the job. Crowd control and peacekeeping? There were many other people properly trained to do that.Trigger happy trained killers aren't ideal peacekeepers, remember when the Parachute regiment were sent in to police a peaceful demonstration in Derry one Sunday in 1972? Shooting people in the back as they ran away.
